Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
The Bad: Plot Holes! Oh, wow, there are plot holes big enough to dive a Time Machine through. Now I'm usually pretty forgiving of this, especially for plots centering around time travel, but when I notice the problems during my first viewing of a movie and they are bad enough to throw me out of the immersive experience, then those plot holes are serious indeed. I won't spoil the movie by giving details, but I will say that you will need to work hard at not thinking too deeply into how the whole time travel stuff works for this one. Another problem is the second act of this film really drags. Our hero spends an inordinate amount of time being introduced to the ridiculous family. And it feels like the writers were trying too hard to make the family eccentric and in the end they hit a weird and unlikeable note. Finally, if you are looking for a Disney Musical – this isn't it. No one sings. Of course, for some people, that's a good thing! The Good:The theme of 'family' was good. The foreshadowing was excellent and made me want to re-watch this (you certainly won't catch every detail on the first run through). The villain(s) were creative and fun. The resolution felt satisfying. The art design was pretty good throughout the movie too – there were very distinct looks to the future, the 'bad future', and the tiny glimpse of the past. While not an exceptionally beautiful film, it doesn't have distractingly poor CGI either. The Mom View:I liked this enough to buy it, although I wouldn't necessarily suggest that for most people. I think this would be good for about an 8 year old or so. There's a short potentially scary scene, but likely on the most sensitive kids would actually get scared. There's also nothing objectionable, but the themes and convoluted time travel might confuse a younger kid. Having said that, a younger child might be more forgiving of the plot holes and enjoy the silly second act more. In my personal opinion, this would be a fun movie to talk about afterwards to see what your kids think of time travel (how it would work, what they'd do if they had a time machine, etc.). Overall, I'd say this is fun and worth seeing more than once, but it won't ever turn into a classic.
A movie should contain a lot of element which will push me to rate perfect 10. This movie deserved it. Why because I didn't expect it to be a much-moving movie (so, expect less). Reality Wise: The movie is unreal for most of its aspect as it uses time machine & some animals speaking but, if you watch sci-fi or fantasy movie like Interstellar/ Harry Potter, you won't be new to this concept. I'll tell you why you will still buy it. Action Wise: I mean If you like Transformers because you like action & you think of action here then sorry, wrong movie for you. Adventure, Suspense, Emotion, Dialogue, Creativity Wise: You will love the plot which goes back & forth in time. You will love how they play with the emotions. I WILL SAY THE MOVIE PLAYS WITH YOUR EMOTIONS & ALSO PLAY WITH YOUR GOALS. It will definitely inspire you with its simple but amazing quotes/dialogues. WHY ITS INSPIRATIONAL FOR ALL is because of the twist of the plot. Which most of the children won't like, but an adult would love. SO what is the twist theme? THE TWIST THEME IS THE MATURITY IN THE BOY as he grows. It ends heart-warming way. With a lovely message about Goals & tells You are the Fortune teller of your story. As WDAS's second all-CGI film, Meet the Robinsons mainly gets off from its messages, but like some of the more influential Disney films (*cough* Zootopia *cough*), it offers quite a bit of substance to go with it. While I will say the writing does get confusing at times and doesn't take full advantage of all of its ideas (including some plot points that I swear I've seen before), what was done right is dazzling for a sci-fi film, including its progressive message of "Keep Moving Forward" and discouraging blame from others so that one can take responsibility for themselves (hmm, seems like something going on right now, doesn't it?). Many of the characters who are important (there are a few more comic reliefs than I am comfortable with) set good examples for children and show the negatives of pessimism and not accepting one's faults. It is depicted through solid animation that is undoubtedly a step in the right direction for WDAS after Chicken Little, giving some nice effects and helping the cartoony action be engaging. It all goes to show that after the horrid years of 2005 and 2006 for animation, 2007 ended up being a revival, and in my eyes, this quickly became a front-runner. While its ideas will surely repel some people, I can recommend this to just about anyone.
Be still my beating heart...this movie is one of my all time favorites, and it breaks my heart that it seemed to skip the Disney mega-hits list. I guarantee that is because it was not voiced by an all star cast, which is more than half the reason why any animated movies get attention these days. However, I thought the cast they did get for this movie was perfect. All voices matched their characters and all of them were excellent. This movie is about an orphan named Louis who is a huge lover of science and inventions. He tries to win over prospective adopters by showing off his inventions to them, and it usually backfires on him. He takes a memory scanner invention to a science fair and a kid with black hair named Wilbur shows up in a time machine and whisks him away to the future because of a crisis. He asks Louis to try and replicate the time machine due to a villain stealing one of the two, all the while trying to hide Louis from the sight of his eccentric family, in which he totally fails. There is a huge plot twist at the end, some moments of roaring laughter, and a sob fest at the very end. The part that gets me crying every single time though, is the quote from Disney along with the song "Little Wonders". I am a sobbing mess for that part. I don't know how anyone couldn't love this movie and I wish it had been promoted more to gain a greater audience.
