Best movie ever!
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
The acting in this movie is really good.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
...that's the whole description you need for this movie...no really there isn't much to talk about. "Shoot em' up" is a very simple but incredibly fun and cartoony action movie, that never tries to be something else. The one-liners are cheesy, the action is so over-the-top that i can 't compare it to something else i've seen, and the plot is so paper- thin that the movie just starts, without introducing anything, you press play and it just goes without stopping. The first shot of the movie is Clive Owen looking intensely into the camera and than munching on a huge carrot, while sitting on a bench seemingly without any reason, and then the plot just comes to him...quite literally. And the Elmer Fudd of our picture is played by Paul Giamatti, who is more psychotic as ever, it's amazing, and disgusting to watch. The action is the selling-point of the film and man does it never holds back. In one scene Clive Owen sleeps with Monica Belucci and shoots some bad guys, while doing it. In another scene he jumps out of a plane and has a skydiving-shootout with some bad guys...you won 't believe it until you see it... Only downside is the editing, which is at times a bit too fast and sometimes you don't really know where all the people are in the room, but because of the cartoony nature and the fun moments it's not too bad.The most interesting part is that it works, strangely enough, the weak characterization and the cartooniness of the film work in it's advantage, at the end it get's down right touching and intense, you really begin to care for what's going on, and enjoy the experience...at least i did.All in all "Shoot em' up" does all it set out to deliver, and even more, it's pure entertainment and incredibly fun...
It's meant as a compliment that "Shoot 'Em Up" is one of the strangest movies I've seen in a long time. For its first 30 minutes or so, it's clearly going for a mix of Woo and Tarantino, and Clive Owen has more than one whacked-out way of ending someone. I kept thinking of Jason Statham in "The Transporter". But after a while that gimmick really gets old, and I blame the paper-shredder editing style for taking all the enjoyment out of things. At a certain point, it just becomes an assault on the sense, and this is before the aerial firefight while falling from a plane. There's no masking the disappointment on this one; it should've been a lot more fun. 4/10
Apparently this movie has been receiving conflicting reviews - peculiar because I think it's ruddy great! The entire film is very obviously tongue-in-cheek, yet semi-serious in content and violence. Massively over the top in pretty much every scene, the characters and actors cast as them were brilliant. Clive Owen was perfect, I really think he would make a superb James Bond. Paul Giamatti is my favourite actor/person so it goes without saying that he stole the show. As for Monica Belluci, I think she's a great actor and pardon me but she's god damn sexy as hell in my male, red-blooded opinion. I thought they all gelled in their roles and I enjoyed every minute of it. More like this please.
Shoot em Up is exactly what the title says it is: a no-holds barrier fun action movie that is guaranteed to make even the action movie buff happy! After a woman dies, a man named Smith makes it his mission to protect her kid 'Oliver'. He teams up with a prostitute making this a wonderfully action action film! And by action i DO mean action! Oh yes this really shows it! I think they used every handgun imaginable for the film lol! This movie is non-stop action for ninety minutes. Do yourself a huge favor and see this movie! You won't regret it! The actor Paul Giamatti who portrays Hertz is excellent as the guy you wanna dislike just cause he doesn't care and how Smith will do anything to protect Oliver. Monica Bellucci as Donna Quintano was great too as Smith's lover in the film. This is a movie you don't want to miss! I give Shoot 'Em Up a 7/10
