Powerful

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I can't in good conscience rate it higher due to the fictional treatment.

'Patriot's Day (2017)' is a tad overlong and sometimes unfocused. It's usually engaging, though, and provides a fairly realistic look at a relatively recent terror-attack. It manages to shed some light on the events that occurred whilst also portraying a compelling account of teamwork triumphing over adversity. It does dip a little too deep into that 'Boston patriotism' that seems to come up every-time a film is set in that particular city, though this time it might actually be sort of worth it. Overall, this is compelling stuff. 7/10

It was hard to look away from the screen throughout the entire runtime. I went in thinking it would be another jazzed up Hollywood recount of a tragedy with countless factual inaccuracies, but I was so wrong. Watched in class and half the students around me were crying by the end and I can't stop thinking about it. Putting real archival footage in this was an excellent decision made by Berg, and made it feel that much more real.My main complaint was that the cast was really star-studded and gave away who lives and dies in the movie relatively quickly. John Goodman isn't signing onto a role just to be killed halfway through. I would have like lesser known or newcomer actors to play the leads, would've just felt less familiar that what it was when using well known actors.

My wife and I watched this at home on BluRay from our public library. The events happened just under 5 years ago and all the news coverage is still pretty fresh in our minds.What is most interesting are all the people and all the activities behind the scenes that allowed the relatively early identification of the Tsarnaev brothers as prime suspects, and the relatively quick work to track them down and prevent their plans for bombs in the Times Square areas of Manhattan.Mark Wahlberg has the lead role as Tommy Saunders who we find out in the extras was a composite character, drawn from several officers working the incidents and investigations. Good movie of a series of despicable events.
