That was an excellent one.
Fantastic!
Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
The ending was super cheesy and not written well, mostly the child's lines, but overall it was enjoyable. It looked good and was acted well enough
On a distant planet in the future, General Lynex (Rachel Griffiths) has been leading immoral works under colonization company Exor. When the situation gets out of control, she intends to wipe out the population to cover up her crimes. Military pilot Kane Sommerville (Daniel MacPherson) learns of the scheme and tries to save his daughter Indi who is still on the planet. He crash lands to find Sy Lombrok (Kellan Lutz) who claims to be a nurse. This is one of those smaller sci-fi movies that has found a space in the myriad of distribution streams. Kellan Lutz does not fill me with confidence. He's fine if somewhat forgettable. There are various flashbacks that don't help the tension. The story could be straight forward but none of it really helps. With the opening act with Indi, I assumed that it's her story but she disappears for most of the middle. The CGI action seems functional as far as modern movies go. The creature design is a step back. The positive is that it's a real creature effect but it's not a mobile design. There are real limitations which CGI could help. I also dislike the first appearance of a creature during a flashback. Obviously, Sy survives because it's a flashback. There are too many flaws to overlook despite some functional elements.
Having initially put this on in the back ground as I did other things, it piqued my interest enough to make me restart it and make a concerted effort to watch it, I am glad that I did.I've read many of the other reviews of this film who say that the script could have been better, that the editing isn't up to Hollywood standard and the action missing in many ways.To a degree they are right, but, they are missing something very fundamental, this is not a Hollywood block buster, this is a small Australian film, that punches above its weight on many fronts and frankly is better by a very long shot than a lot of the dross Hollywood is pushing out lately - Suicide Squad, Alien: Covenant, Transformers: The Last Night, The Dark Tower to name but a few.If you enjoyed Chappie, District 9, Wyrmwood and are generally a lover of more independent films then I think you will like this film, it isn't perfect by a long shot but, I hope they do make a sequel as I am interested to see where the story goes. Finally I would point out one actor for praise, Isabel Lucas surprised me, I initially mistook her for Yo-Landi Visser from Chappie! I thought she did surprisingly well in this role and for me, was the stand out actress/actor in this film.
Spoiler alert! Wow that's time I won't get back, really don't watch it, the script is so bad, there is no climax just a plain movie. It feels like just one scene in the entire movie, there is no depth or message behind it, IT's really worthless don't waste your time in this. really bad movie.well actors and special effects are cool but that is IT.
