Save your money for something good and enjoyable

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

How to properly review a film like this is something that has bewildered many people on here. Could you simply explain the story (as you believe it to be) or do you express your feelings after having seen it? Perhaps you must see this movie 50 times before you can properly describe it. Maybe 100? I'm not sure I can still perform this task after seeing this film so many times. Every time I watch it, new questions come up, new meanings get revealed, new disturbed beauty shines through. This film is by far and above one of the most prized cinematic gems I have in my collection and I give it all the attention it deserves.Nikos Nikolaidis certainly shows amazing talent by creating a film such as this with so little. One house, three actors and not heavy on the dialogue, this film is about as powerful as they come. But here's the catch, it's still a mystery! Who killed Laura? Who is Laura? Who is Singapore Sling? Where did he come from? What happened to father? Was the daughter even really the daughter????? I think the story runs deep, and people seem to just see what's up on the screen and take it at face value. Notice the lack of names? Notice the use of the Greek language by only Singapore Sling? Why does the daughter not understand French if her mother speaks it regularly? Perhaps you saw this movie and loved it, and perhaps you have forgotten it in the depths of your memory. Perhaps you should seek it out and watch it a few more times.I could go on for days about the subtle nuances and absolutely amazing musical score (that still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it). I could go on about how this film has actually affected (in a good way) my love life (not in the way you think, sickos). I could go on forever about what I think this story portrays, but perhaps it is the mystery that makes this film so endearing. As sick as it is, and as hard as some parts are to watch, it is something that will sit with you for a long time. So, don't just look at the disturbed imagery as it is, look at the characters and listen to the dialogue. Perhaps this is a tale that is beyond a simple mystery and maybe it's a sick joke on all of us. Perhaps it's just Nikos Nikolaidis blowing his proverbial genius load on to all of us. Any way you look at it, it's something that was almost lost to the complete underground but has made a small comeback."Forget her, forget her Singapore Sling"

It was once said that the whole of a movie should not be in so much whether you like or disliked a movie, but rather, did it leave a lasting impression upon you? Taking that idea into account, I would have to say that "Singapore Sling" is without a doubt an indelible addition to the film noir genre, albeit the bizarro kind. As one of the reviewers has mentioned before, this movie shouldn't be taken seriously. You should come into this one with an open mind and you'll be rewarded with a beautifully photographed film noir filled with black humor. "Singapore Sling" is like the demented cousin of "Laura", "Sunset Boulevard" and "Grey Gardens". It's your basic detective story but with torture, bizarre erotica, and outstanding overacting. Just make sure the parents are asleep and that you've got the right kind of friend in tow when watching it.

The best Hollywood film that Hollywood never made! This has instant classic stamped all over it. A film that plays, teases and laughs both with and at it's many possible influences, not to mention itself along the way.Stunning cinematography and 'bravura' performances from the female leads, this is the perfect TV Sunday afternoon film if the world was sound instead of being the bonkers screwed up place it actually is.Unreservedly recommended to anyone and if you don't find it engaging, maybe it's yourself that needs a reassessment.Now just how does one get to see his other movies??!!!!!

wow - this movie is mind-blowing in so many ways... it's on a ranking with the best of world cinema, and is not merely transgressive (though be aware -- it is extremely transgressive). The two female leads personify commitment to an acting role, and along with the male lead go all out for their art. This movie is an integral piece - a complete cinematic vision, from the stellar black and white cinematography (with "deep focus" throwback to Gregg Toland, the man-with-the-print waxed enthusiastically to me about) to the noir overtones and the hard-boiled detective, the "Laura" musical theme interwoven throughout -- to the perverse erotic aesthetic. Plus it takes all this to an operatic level - as fully constructed as a Greenaway film but without the arty label. This movie lays on the sexual taunts and the threat of death in ever-increasing doses. It is ending from the very beginning -- but it takes a long, increasingly loaded ordeal before it finally hits us with the tragic conclusion. You will not have seen anything like Singapore Sling -- it is a work of beauty though it bears repeated viewings to assimilate everything it has to offer.
