Crappy film
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
I really can't figure out why there are people to give this great film a negative grade. this film has it all. it's a crank already but a vast improvement. the plot the story the action...u never get bored. this has everything. even romance and emotion here and there. for an action flick of this type it's almost perfect. of course it has a few flaws but these are to be expected. I wish all those kind of films to be like that one. if u watched and loved the accident man starring jay white and scott adkins 10 times u will love this flick another 100 times. it's what the other film was only a lot better minus the martial art sequences the other film had of course. if this film had scott and white in it would ger an A GRADE. now it gets a B grade which is very good indeed. an 8 out of 10. don't miss the one. u will never know how time passed.
After a mercenary dies in a brutal firefight, a new regenerative surgery gives him a second chance at life and another shot at redemption........For 24 hours.......Ethan Hawke can multitask in whatever film genre there is.Pick a genre, and you'll find him appearing somewhere. It's a basic rehash of 3 days to kill mixed with In Time, and it hides nothing up its sleeve. If you want to see a film that basically rips those two films off, sprinkles a little Escape From New York in the mix, and has a one sheet that makes you think of Jack Bauer, look no further. We know Hawke needs redeeming, he's lost his family and has turned to drink. After an offer he can't refuse comes his way, he is fatally shot, but bought back by having a stop watch inserted in his arm, and having his skin dyed fours shades greyer. The mad on from Peaky Blinders is an old friend that guess what, turns out to be on the other side, so it's up to Hawke to find out what the devil is going on before the counter reaches zero. This should have been a frenetically paced B-movie, and even though it has some decent action moments, you can't help but think of better action films from yesteryear.Rutger Hauer pops up as the father-in-law, but this doesn't offer anything new to the action genre, and it's instantly forgettable....
Surprisingly, director Brian Smrz's "24 Hours to Live" qualifies as a better-than-average, actioneer that gives Ethan Hawke more to do than most conventional heroes get in straight-to-video thriller. Nevertheless, this formulaic nonsense resorts to sci-fi shenanigans to compensate for its hopeless contrivances. The plot sends agent Travis Conrad (Ethan Hawke of "Training Day") on his last mission to kill a bodyguard as well as a witness who about to blow the whistle on his clandestine employer named Red Mountain. This heinous organization has created a way to resurrect the dead for at least 24 hours. During those remaining 24 hours, they suffer no end of nightmares and hallucinations. Things go sideways for our reluctant protagonist because he doesn't have his heart in his work. He behaves with compassion, and this gets him killed by the female Interpol agent that he was supposed to ice. Rutger Hauer makes the most of a supporting role as Conrad's father-in-law. Liam Cunningham Liam Cunningham makes a terrific villain. Clocking in at 93 nimble minutes, "24 Hours to Live" is lively, visceral stuff. Smrz orchestrates some kinetic chases, and this shoot'em up doesn't wear out its welcome.
24 Hours to Live is a semi decent action thriller film. A little better than I expected for a straight to dvd type of movie. A plot that could have been better. Involving a hitman trying to save the victim's life. And going after the bad guys in a shoot em up type of movie. What I like about the film is the action sequences were better than I expected. I wont be comparing this to John Wick movies, which are still by far superior. But since the film was done by the same production studio. The action gun shoot out scenes are entertaining. There is a couple of car chases and shoot out scenes that makes this film worth watching. What did not work with the film is almost about everything else from a terrible script, dull characters, and a boring plot. The script is terrible with bad dialogue. The script also fails on giving interesting character depths. Especially, Travis (Ethan Hawke) who is an assassin for hire on a company that is being testified against. They hire him to go eliminate the witness. When his attempt fails, and they were able to save him. Only giving him 24 hours to live and to do his job. He attempts to go after the bad guys that betrayed him. The script does give his character some background. A history of a tragic past about his family. Making him a man with nothing to lose. His character is tedious. Same with Xu Qing, a bodyguard that is assigned in protecting the witness. Also, the plot is boring. There have been several films involving a hitman turning things around to protect the witness against a company that hired him. Plus Travis partner within the company Morrow (Paul Anderson) who hired him to do the job. They both served for the same company and had history. But his character was also lacking in depth. Overall, 24 Hours to Live is a bad film. If it was not for the car chases and gun shoot out action. The characters are dull and lacking depth. It has terrible dialogue. And the plot is cliché and predictable. I do not recommend the film unless your looking for a cheap action film with no plot than I ll recommend it as a rental.I rate the film 2.5 out of 5 stars.
