U Me Aur Hum
The movie starts with Ajay (Ajay Devgan) telling a boy that he should make his move on a girl he likes. The boy (who is his son) tells him that if he can go woo another older lady, he will tell the girl he likes about his feelings.

Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
Excellent but underrated film
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I wouldn't call this movie a must watch, but if you've got nothing to do for a couple of hours.... Kudos for picking such a difficult topic as Alzheimer's as still many people don't understand this disease. Lots of copying from The Notebook, but I don't really mind watch Bollywood remakes, however for this film it might have been better if they just did a scene by scene copy bollywood style. A good effort from the Devgan's,unfortunately the love story just wasn't believable for me. Ajay and Kajol looked great together, but they're aging. The acting wasn't too bad, but when your don't have good dialogue it doesn't matter. It would have been better showing them falling in love after an arranged marriage, instead of the whole love at first sight thing. Boring scenes when Ajay looks through Piya's scrapbook and the film shows choppy childhood scenes which were pointless. Also the whole salsa dancing scenes were painful to watch and what was up with the kid who stalks them on the boat? Not nearly enough scenes of normal life after marriage. I found the camera work to be annoying like others have said. Lots of weird close ups (I mean I could see their pores!!). Usually the first half of bollywood films are more fun to watch, but not here, the second half of this one is much better than first. I really liked the supporting characters a lot and would have liked to see more developed stories there since they open the film. Divya Dutta is always a joy to watch. She should do more films. ps. I liked the guy who said "he felt like ripping his arm out and bashing his head" - hilarious, still laughing!!
Saw this movie yesterday with high expectations. It almost came true. An impressive debut by Ajay Devgan as a director. He lets his work speak for him unlike the others. The movie starts with too many dialogs and no action for the first ten minutes or so. Then the action begins. Almost the entire first half entertains you nicely with few great jokes/one-liners to remember. Kanchanjanga Godbole, 'General ki naak' and the likes :) Then the serious part begins which gets one hooked too. Kajol has short term memory loss problems and it almost results in their dreams together getting shattered. This serious part goes hand in hand with some good one-liners which make you laugh. Pushpa :) Overall a different movie from Bollywood stable which usually has only romantic love stories working at the BO.Ajay proves himself as an intelligent person. Kajol's acting abilities are already known to all. She is as usual, good.Sumit Raghavan is impressive, Divya is good.I give it 7 out of 10.
A story with a message - BUT the message is simplistically simple, the love story is INSPIRED by a few films (Notebook, 50 first dates etc.) and banal, and the dialogs are horrendous. I think a Kajol or Ajay fan can see it (I did). Ajay made this one so it feels exactly like the summary he wrote for IMDb and that summary was worse than a grade school summary of a book or film. Even the tag line is lifted from the amazing Painted Veil. Unfortunately none of the quality of that marital strife film rubs off on U Me Aur Hum.I really like Kajol, and thought she looked very good in the first half of K3G (a film I quite dislike) but then they choose to make her haggard in the second half and she has kept that look. What is with all that dark dark eye makeup? Does she want to become the Rekha of her time? There were a few moments when she looked great, but most of the time she was OTT with white lipstick and big black mascara. Ajay just looked dour most of the time and it did not help that the extreme closeup photography enhanced every blackhead, every pore, every wrinkle in the faces of the couple.A couple of scenes engaged me, but the dialogs were bad beyond belief. The kid has to be named with an F, so F U dash dash E R is a great name? A long winded dialog about 'cutting the arm off' was so stupid I thought at first that I didn't get some profound statement that was being made. Ajay was great in HDDCS - he would say "You know something? Never mind!" and I loved him for that. But this is carrying a great dialog to silly extremes (repeated 100 times in UMAH) without the catch line, which was NEVER MIND and suited the character of Vanraj! I can hum Dil Dhakda hai - so maybe one song was OK. But the lyrics for all the songs were horrific here is a sample of lyrics from Dhakda hai! Dil laaya hoon, tang do khunti pe, sapnon mein aajaana, raat ko hoon duty pe!! That Phatte number was simply atrocious in lyrics, melody and choreography. The Saiyyan song - that was the most inappropriate insertion of a song into a situation EVER! In summary, U Me Aur Hum is a most banal film. With a silly bottom line - if you love you wife/(mother/father) do not send them to an institution when they get Alzheimers or start failing. Forget the fact that most people cannot send them to that 5 star type facility she went to, and for others sending them to any kind of facility is not a financial option. The tragedy of the disease was never really explored was it? For that we still have to look to Maine Gandhi ko Nahin Maara. As for the marital advice - I've seen better from Dear Abby.
Rating: 4/5!!! Very much recommended!!! I have to say I truly applaud Ajay Devgan's directorial debut. There were moments of great truth and brilliance, and I really appreciated what I felt was a very smart use of symbolic images (watch it and you'll understand). It's truly a remarkable story. I think Mr. Devgan has a talent for story telling. And his cinematographic eye is remarkable. I think he truly understands that a story in film can be (should be?) narrated through images, acting AND words, in an effective combination of the three (MINOR SPOILER here: I loved the juxtaposition of images and dialog on the cruise when Ajay tells Piya about his watch. I felt it was very effective).Very few times I've felt that a character is as real as Ajay, and I really have to say I was very moved by his characterization of a true, flawed and brave human being. My only comments that could be read as a constructive critique, are very minor. One, the quotes at the beginning are somewhat hard to read as the letters come "flying" to their respective positions in the sentence. Also, they deter the viewer's attention from the initial credits (I'd like my name to be read if I'd been part of the crew!) All in all, I loved the film for its beautiful story, use of words, images, acting, music. Kajol as always manages to take us to unimaginable heights through her performance, and you create the perfect platform for her to do so, while embodying perfectly what human love is all about.
