Restless Natives
Two lads in Edinburgh embark on a non-violent spree of robberies. They dress up in clown masks and act as modern highwaymen, robbing coach loads of tourists in the highlands. In the process they become folk heroes to the locals. Their adventures make for a whimsical and gentle comedy, in the Bill Forsyth vein.

Purely Joyful Movie!
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
I have watched this film so many times in the last 28 years and it is so memorable as each scene that is shot was so brilliant that it makes the film so amazing as a whole. From the first attempted stick up till the last ride through Edinburgh with Big Country blaring. What more could you ask. I have been going to all the places that they filmed and it was an Honor to have my picture taken where Ronnie and Will stood and went on their bike. I recently found Joe Mullaney who works for a role play company as I always wondered what he looks like now. I really hope this film makes a comeback at some point as it really is an iconic film and it would be great to see Ronnie and Will back on the big screen.
This movie is worth buying just for the stunning Scottish scenery accompanied by a fabulous soundtrack by Scottish rockers, Big Country. Add to this an amusingly light-hearted plot and an interesting twist to the tale, and this may well be the most entertaining movie ever to be produced in Scotland.Copies of the VHS video have been extremely difficult to find in recent years and, the fact that they have been selling for up to $150US on e-Bay will give you some idea how enjoyable it is.The DVD release is long overdue and would be a worthy addition to any DVD collection.
indeed an excellent movie. I remember hiring it out because of the sticker on the cover saying music by Big Country. But the film itself is a joy to watch. Funny, hilarious and just the right amount of suspense to make it worth watching again and again. The DVD is out later this movie,it's a must. The soundtrack alone makes it worth purchasing. The scenery is breath-taking as well. I used to own it on video, picked it up in a bargain bucket in Ritz video and I wore the tape out. Is that enough proof for you to watch it? It was shown a number of times on Channel 4. It makes some of the movies..ie The Matrix seem lame.
This has got to be one the most funny and entertaining films ever to have been set in Scotland . My only gripes are the accents are obviously West of Scotland when it`s set in Edinburgh , a pedantic point but I come from Edinburgh originally but have spent most of my life in the West of Scotland so the erroneous accents stick out a mile to the trained ear , and the fact RESTLESS NATIVES suffers very badly from a weak ending . But this film is still a lot of fun
