The Worst Film Ever
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
although the movie's acting and directing were very amateur, the plot was an amazing concept. the films script was cheesy, but the story in general was genius. the whole time watching the film, i was thinking to myself that if this movie had th chance, it could be very good. again, its not the story that was bad, it was the acting and directing. i mean if u look a the basic idea, a group of people stuck in a cave, fighting one another for each others flesh, thats a winning plot right there, just ready for any big time producer to bite into. if this move is redone today, with a larger budget and a better cast and crew, this could be a very popular film. too bad it just wasn't done right the first time around.
This is an absolutely worthless Horror film, that's extremely boring, the only bright spot in the film is the ending, as it was quite cool. All the characters are very dull, and the story isn't all that interesting, plus I'm quite certain I got the censored version, as their is hardly any gore in sight, other then the severed arm we see a few time's throughout the movie. It's very poorly made and written, and I thought the performances were especially bad as well, plus It's extremely hard to pay attention at times, because it's painfully dull, as not much happens. It consists a lot of people walking around, lots of dialog, people driving, and creating no interesting characters, plus as I said while the ending was very good, it's nowhere near enough to save this piece of junk. I got this in a DVD Horror set called Back From The Grave, along with a bunch of other horror films, plus the music score at the beginning was actually pretty creepy, as I was thinking this might not be to bad, sadly I was wrong. This is an absolutely worthless Horror film, that's extremely boring, the only bright spot in the film, is the ending, as it was quite cool, however it's not enough Avoid it!. The Direction is very bad. Thomas S. Alderman does a very bad job here, with shoddy camera work, and keeping the film at an incredibly dull pace. The Acting is absolutely atrocious, as none of them are really worth commenting on, in my opinion. Overall, avoid it please. (half star) out of 5
The other reviewer absolutely hit the nail on the head when he said that you might watch this expecting a 70's "so bad it's good" film, but even then you'd be disappointed, as it's truly irredeemable. Don't even bother watching it for fun. The acting quite honestly is about on par with porn -- I say this without exaggeration. The cinematography looks like something shot by a community theater, and the characters are the most unlikeable ever written. There's even a blatant rip-off of the old "we've traced the call and it's coming from your other line" story, with no variation. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a spoof.
According to the "alternate versions" listing at this site, there is a heavily edited version of The Severed Arm with most of the gore scenes removed. I think this is the version I saw. Nevertheless, I doubt that any amount of gore could possibly redeem this film. The story might have been interesting, but it falls apart under the burden of terrible acting, dialogue, music, and photography. Even giving the filmmakers the ultra-low-budget benefit of the doubt, this is just a badly made, boring movie.Spoilers follow. It's obvious from the first few times we see her that the daughter character is involved in the killings. But of course the heroes trust her completely and let her know all their plans and leave themselves alone with her many times. And the ending is so stupid it should never even have been scripted. The villain locks a man in a dungeon cell provided with a hunting knife, under the assumption that the prisoner will eventually amputate his own arm for food. No one would EVER do that in that situation! Even if the hero couldn't find any way to escape using the knife, he would probably just use it to kill himself instead of choosing the ridiculous option of cutting off and eating his own arm. It's not a matter of survival-- even if he succeeded in the amputation, his captors would just kill him anyway. Anybody could have written a better ending!
