WWE Survivor Series 1992

PG 6.4
1992 2 hr 31 min Drama , Action

The 1992 WWE Survivor Series was the sixth annual Survivor Series. It took place on November 25, 1992 at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio. Unlike previous Survivor Series events, Survivor Series 1992 placed a strong emphasis on one-on-one wrestling matches rather than tag team elimination matches. In the main event, Bret Hart defends his WWF Championship in a match against Shawn Michaels. The event also featured a highly-promoted match between the team of Randy Savage and Mr. Perfect and the team of Ric Flair and Razor Ramon. Two specialty matches also took place, with The Big Boss Man vs. Nailz in a nightstick on a pole match, and The Undertaker vs. Kamala in a Casket Match. Some of the matches were changed after they were first announced, as several wrestlers left the WWF shortly before the event.

Clearly, the WWF was still sorting itself out of the post-Hogan era at the time of this event, and despite a few hints at things moving in the right direction, Survivor Series '92 is kind of a mess and ultimately very skippable in the PPV canon. Most of the matches in this event are subpar and featuring uneven talent. For example...-Tag team match between High Energy (Owen Hart and Koko B. Ware) vs. The Headshrinkers. Talk about starting off with a whimper. Decent wrestling, but little "push" for either team makes it ultimately expendable. -Big Boss Man vs. Nailz in a Nightstick Match. Dumb concept, even worse wrestling. -Virgil vs. Yokozuna. The big man would prove to have some staying power in the WWF (he moves well for such a fat guy), but having him in the ring with Virgil is so comical as to be ridiculous. -A similar thing happens with the ever-popular Undertaker against the completely embarrassing Kamala.Probably the only two decent matches of this event were:-Tatanka (a fan favorite!) vs. Rick "Model" Martel. -Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWF title. A decent match even if both men have had (and will have) better. One final note: Good to see Razor Ramon making his first PPV appearance (I believe) here. He knows what he is doing and how to put on a good show.Overall, Survivor Series '92 is a disappointment pretty much any way you slice it. A few hints at the company turning itself around, but it certainly doesn't make that leap this go-round.

Live from Richfield, OHAttendance 17,500Your commentators are Vince McMahon & Bobby HeenanHigh Energy (Owen Hart & Koko B. Ware) Vs The Headshrinkers (W/Afa)The Headshrinkers win. This wasn't bad by any means, but it's not really a way you wanna start your show. The crowd was into it, but everything else about it didn't seem like an opener to me. Overall, I'd say it's average.** out of 5Nightstick MatchThe Big Bossman Vs NailzThe Big Bossman wins with the Bossman slam. This was horrible! The nightstick was used, but everything else was unexciting and fell flat. I expected this to be horrible and that's exactly what I got. Nailz is known for attacking Vince McMahon behind the scenes. * out of 5'The Model' Rick Martel Vs TatankaTatanka wins with a Samoan Drop. They called it a "great" match, but I felt it was below average and lacking in excitement. There were too many rest holds as well. Martel is a great veteran and Tatanka had ability, but they didn't mesh well.*3/4 out of 5Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect Vs Ric Flair & Razor RamonSavage and Mr. Perfect win by DQ after a wild finish. I'm surprised this wasn't the main event. It was billed more than the match between Bret and Shawn. How was the match? It was decent. The crowd atmosphere was electric and it had a big match feel. I liked how Mr. Perfect teased abandoning Savage. The match was fairly exciting.**1/2 out of 5Yokozuna (W/Mr. Fuji) Vs VirgilYokozuna wins with the Banzai drop. This is a glorified squash match. Virgil barely got in any offense at all here. I suppose it was a smart choice to put this match here to cool the crowd down.3/4* out of 5Money Inc & The Beverly Brothers Vs The Natural Disasters & The Nasty BoysThe Nasty Boys survive. This match felt like it went 40 minutes! That's how boring it was. It's funny, because you have two solid tag teams, yet the team of The Natural Disasters and The Nasty Boys are the complete opposite. Thank god that's over.* out of 5Coffin MatchThe Undertaker (W/Paul Bearer) Vs Kamala (W/Harvey Whippleman & Kim Chee)The Undertaker wins. After watching The Undertaker's matches with Giant Gonzalez, his matches with Kamala are a 5 star classic in comparison. Obviously, the match is pretty bad, but I've seen much worse. I thought Kamala did a good job of conveying fear. *1/4 out of 5WWF Championship (Champion Vs Champion)Bret Hart (C) Vs Shawn MichaelsBret is the WWF Champion and Shawn is the Intercontinental Champion. Bret retains the title by submission with the Sharpshooter. This match redeems the PPV somewhat. It's a damn good match that could have been even better if it wasn't for the slow start. As good as this match is, the chemistry wasn't as good as it would become. They hadn't even scratched the surface.***3/4 out of 5Well, this is a pretty forgettable PPV. It's also the first time that WWE really abandoned the elimination style. You're not missing anything if you skip it.4.5/10

1. Owen Hart/Koko B.Ware Vs. Headshrinkers - Average match 6/10 2. Big Stiff Man Vs. Nailz - Terrible match, however. 4/10 3. Rick Martel Vs. Tatanka (Lol inc.) - 1 uninteresting match. 5/10 4. Ric Flair/Razor Ramon Vs. Randy Savage/Mr. Perfect - Great booked match, but stupid ending. 6/10 5. Yokozuna Vs. Virgil -Yokozuna's PPV debut 6/10 6. The Beverly Brothers/I.R.S./Ted Dibiase Vs. Natural Disasters/Nasty Boys 5.5/10 7. Kamala Vs. The Undertaker - Kamala is one ridiculous and very bad wrestler. Match suffers by his wrestling skills...8. WWF Championship: Shawn Michaels (IC Champ) Vs. Champ-Bret Hart - Finally some watchable Main Event Instead Hulk Vs Rest of the World or Macho or at worst Piper or Warrior. This was solid match. 7/10 SANTA? Oh no....

Survivor Series 1992 was an entertaining night for fans in attendance, who finally got to see Savage defeat Flair once and for all, winning their feud that had raged through most of 1992. It also saw the first singles meeting between future professional rivals Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels in a nice WWE Championship match that lacked a big fight atmosphere.Unlike the first five Survivor Series, the 1992 version was light on elimination tag matches and had some one on one action and started with a tag match in which the Headshrinkers (Samu and Fatu) defeated High Energy (Owen Hart and Koko B Ware) in a decent opener. Samu and Fatu worked over Koko for most of the match, with help form their manager Afa. Owen eventually gets tagged in, does some drop kicks, but then gets caught by Samu going fro a cross body. Fall away Slam. 1,2,3! Next up is one of those awful weapon on a poll gimmick matches. In this case the weapon is a nightstick and the two men trying to get their hands on it are Big Bossman and Nailz. Bossman gets the stick. Nailz gets it off him. Stuff happens. Bossman wins with a power slam. Nothing match, as most weapon on a pole matches are.Doink the Clown, who's PPV debut this was, stole the show in the next match as Tatanka and Rick Martel had a decent match in the ring. Doink was blowing up balloons and popping them to annoy the children. Tatanka picked up the win to remain undefeated.Next up came the long awaited conclusion to the Ric Flair vs Rabndy Savage feud. This had been good stuff all year. It had started with Flair wining the title at the Royal Rumble. Savage became No.1 contender and Flair bragged about sleeping with Savage's wife Miss Elizabeth before she'd met Savage. Savage kicked Flair's butt in a classic match at Wrestlemania to win the title. Flair and his off-sider Mr Perfect interfered in Savage's match against the Ultimate Warrior at Summerslam. A few weeks later, Flair won the title back from Savage after Flair's cronies Mr Perfect and Razor Ramon (making his first appearance on WWE Television) interfered in the match. But Perfect had now turned on Flair and joined forces with Savage to take on Flair and Ramon in an entertaining feud blow-off extravaganza! After a good back and forth tag match, Flair and Ramon beat down Savage and were disqualified. Not the most satisfying end to the feud, but a good match all the same.Next up was the only Survivor Series match of the evening, and it was a four on four tag team elimination match. The Nasty Boys and the Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) defeated Money Inc (Irwin R Shyster and Ted DiBiase) and the Beverley Brothers.Next up Yokozuna, making his PPV debut, defeated Virgil. Virgil got some offence in, but never seriously threatened Yokozuna, who won with a Banzai drop. Now we get to see another gimmick match as the Undertaker ends his long feud with Kamala by winning a coffin match after knocking out the big African with his urn.Brings us to the main event, in which Bret Hart, who'd been the WWE Champion a little over a month after beating Ric Flair, putting his title on the line against Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels, who himself had only recently won the title from the British Bulldog. The two guys have a very good match, which lacks the main event atmosphere because neither man was really established in that role at this stage. Hart wins with the sharpshooter, but both guys come out of the match looking strong.A nice event, with some disappointing finishes and a rushed build after some title changes, injuries and the Ultimate Warrior leaving again. Basically, British Bulldog was the IC Champion but got fired, so had to drop the title to Michaels. Flair was thought to be seriously injured and so had to drop the WWE Title to Hart in a match that was not televised at the time. So they were really re-loading from square one. Not an essential entry by any means, but not terrible.
