A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

the good intentions are basic virtue of this strange film. strange not for idea but for its use. and for the not inspired manner to be more than poor exercise to remember a classic. the cast is OK and this is far to be a virtue. because the presence of Heather Graham and James Purefoy as a sweet couple, Fionnula Flanagan in skin of an interesting character and, the sad piece - Andy Serkis as pearl before swine in a movie who is only mixture between different ingredients, with large slices of Rosemary Baby and a lot of clichés. it is difficult to comment a film who is only exercise for a director ambition. or, only, a not inspired homage to Polansky and horror universe.

When Samantha Howard (played by gorgeous Heather Graham) and her husband Craig decide that the time is right to start a family, they find that becoming pregnant isn't as easy as they had at first hoped. Now personally, if I was having trouble getting Ms. Graham up the duff, I'd persevere and keep trying the way nature intended (two or three times a day should suffice, more if she was to wear roller boots and hot-pants); but rather than submit himself to the chore of regularly bunking up with his hot wife, Craig agrees to take her to a remote fertility clinic in the country where she can receive IVF treatment. Unfortunately, the owner of the facility is a devil worshipper who is trying to clone Lucifer, using Heather's eggs, her husbands sperm, and a drop or two of blood from Satan himself.Despite solid performances from a more than capable cast (Graham, Purefoy, Stella Stevens, David Hemmings and Andy Serkis), this tepid little occult thriller flounders due to a lack of chills and a 'seen-it-all-before' storyline (Rosemary's Baby did it all much better). The film ambles along quite nicely until Serkis's nutty priest appears after which it rapidly goes downhill. And the film's ending is quite ridiculous.Whilst not exactly boring, 'Blessed' really needed a creepy atmosphere and a few good scares in order to succeed, but unfortunately Simon Fellows's sedate direction provided neither, leaving me impressed only by Heather Graham and her very realistic prosthetic belly.

I tried really hard to give this movie the benefit of the doubt telling myself that any moment now it was going to get better but it just never did. I feel like someone sat down & made a list of a lot of things they wanted to put in a movie. (pretty girl, flash house, cute kids, ancient artifacts etc..) Did them all poorly on the cheep & threw them together with no thought about plot, point or purpose. Both the acting & script left me with no connection to the characters what so ever leaving me feeling like i couldn't care less what happened to them. The end result, a poorly made, budget feeling film lacking any substance at all.

I hate to say it folks, but Roman Polanski ought to sue for plagiarism. "Blessed" is a poor cousin to the classic 1968 Polanski film "Rosemary's Baby". If you have seen "Rosemary's Baby" my advise is give this one a miss. If you haven't seen it, then watch it on TV or watch it if someone else pays for the rental of it, but don't expect much. You will be bored out of your gourd if you are expecting anything close to a psychological thriller or horror. Even the special effects pale and fail when compared to the original of 35 years ago. The only new offering to the plot here is the science of en-vitro fertilization and twin Satan spawns rather than the one son of Rosemary. I must say, I found the acting weak too. The characters had none of that quality the captivated the viewer... The Castivets and Woodhouses were far more three dimensional than the bland, unmemorable folks in "Blessed". Finally, I found an overall lack of horror value in "Blessed". I did not once focus my eyes two centimetres below the TV screen (a technique I developed as a child when a movie got "too scary", yet I didn't want to miss the scene) as I did a couple of times with the original.
