Admirable film.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
I vaguely remember watching this on Netflix, I believe, quite some time ago. It was that memorable that I watched it again, remembering it after most of it was done. It was...all right. The acting was better than expected, but the music was quite annoying. The interactions between the characters was believable, except for the jarring, one-note characterization of the Jesus freak. I've known some holy rollers in my time, and though they can be annoying, they're not nearly as nasty as this one was. What I can't understand is how it could be considered a 'found footage film'. The 'found footage' comprises perhaps fifteen percent of the total film. No real jump scares, unless you're very nearly asleep and the loud noises make you jump, like they did me. The little girl was, perhaps, the only really sympathetic character in a film full of veiled hostility. The characters were vaguely hostile to each others' chosen professions, and the environment itself was hostile. All in all, an okay film with a 'message'.
First of all the acting in this movie was horrible needless to say the movie itself was great. But come on we have seen better acting in the smurfs but the scares were good the story was awesome. It just shows viewers that not even the church is safe from what we call ghosts and attacks from the other side. But enough of that back to the movie i thought the plot was too open there were holes in it everywhere and if someone could please do a remake of this film with some intelligent actors and actress's then i think this movie could be worth buying but for me its a 5/10
This is a descent scary movie, but the actors are terrible. The creepy church girl shows her breasts in the movie which is a plus and common for horror movies like this one. It will give you goosebumps if you can sit through it with the acting...or lack of it. It has a "Paranormal Activity" vibe, but again where PA was believable due to the acting this one does the opposite. At no point will you forget you're watching a movie. Another funny point is that Carter's computer has electrical tape over the brand. Another one of those amateurish issues with the movie. It would have been better to just leave that part our than draw attention to the fact they didn't permission to use the trademark. Lastly, the audio isn't very good. I had to turn the volume up and down throughout the movie. Some of the actors like the journalist always seemed to be loud and Carter was quiet. The videographer dropped the f- bomb almost every sentence...and it was extremely noticeable unlike Scarface, Goodfellas, etc. which this is obviously not.
Of course it is not the best horror movie I have ever seen but if it gave some creeps to such a veteran horror movie watches like me, that means it has some value in those terms. but that's not really what i intend to write about. in my opinion this piece shows exactly what Christianity is about. and right now I'm not making any distinction between Catholics and Protestants (I was raised catholic and grew up in the Polish countryside (an ultra - catholic environment) fortunately, early in my teens I was smart enough to realize what is ANY organized religion really about - CONTROL, OPPRESSION, HARM and in many cases extreme VIOLENCE.(by the way I'm from Poland, where most of the society is catholic. when I came here I was shocked how RETARDED the protestant version can be. I mean the creationism as opposed to Catholic church which accepts Darwin's theory, treating that part of the Bible as a metaphor. when I came to this country, which I had thought of as one of the most developed countries in the world I found that the majority if the society still stays in the XIXth century frame of mind!!!! that was a shock for me but that does not mean that one is better or worse than the other. anyway, let's get back to the movie. it gave me some chills but it only means that in my personal opinion it did serve as a decent horror flick. but what struck me as the most important thing in the picture was that it played with religious notions and symbols making them the subject of the viewer's dread, which is in fact related to all the oppression, harm, violence, wickedness and, to sum up, simply EVIL which has been inflicted upon the humanity. hence there is no wonder that a movie like that can get some audiences scared Adam Mazur
