Brilliant and touching
Absolutely amazing
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Boy Meets Girl is the first older film that I reviewed because I received the DVD recently, it came out in 2014. I would have to say that the film has some simple clichés, but it does some of the realities of transgender women in the south. The breakout star of the film was Michelle Hendley was perfect and I hope she gets more work soon. This film can be great film for parents to watch when there child comes out as transgender and it will help some come to term who their child was always supposed to be. I was shocked that this film was not nominated for any Golden Globes. The period setting was perfect when it comes to the costumes. Hair styling, and cars. I felt a powerful connection to this film because I am pre-male to female transgender woman and I currently live in the south currently. This film could have been ten minutes shorter. I hope there will be more transgender films to come including about transgender women of color as well religious transgender women. I believe this film is twenty minutes too long. I am giving this film 9 and ½ stars out of 10.
As a parent of a young trans man, I had hoped that this movie would treat the issues of a young trans woman with insight and nuance and it does. What I didn't expect was how well it works as a truly romantic movie, funny, difficult, sweet. I have watched it alone, first, then with my husband and son. And snuck another watching in...it's really a great movie. It avoids some of the stereotypes -- and makes it easier to understand that one's gender is different from one's sexual attraction (one is who you go to bed AS -- the other is who you go to bed WITH). It also deftly avoids stereotypes of the South, although I wish all people were as accepting as people in Ricky's hometown. The three leads are so winning -- hard to believe that lead Michelle Hendley had not acted before. I hope she gets wonderful work that will help her continue to thrive as an actor. There's a tiny production flaw that involved a license plate -- hope that knowing that will keep you watching!
I watched Boy meets girl not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised . I am a big fan of old movies , my favourite actors include Humphrey Bogart , James Cagney and Errol Flynn , amongst others and it is rare for me to be impressed by modern movies , most of which are formula movies with little or no originality and more often than not , unadulterated crap . Then along comes Boy meets girl , a genuinely original movie about a touchy subject , with a great script and superb acting and direction . Michelle Hendley and Michael Welch are a pleasure to watch and listen to and the Ricky character has some great dialogue , giving as good , if not better , than she gets . I have enjoyed the movie so much that in the last month I have watched it 3 times , something I never do and enjoyed it more with every viewing . I have added it to my list of all time favourites , which includes Casablanca , Gone with the wind , Some like it hot , Battleground , White Heat , Jaws and many more . It is a genuine shame that it was never released in Australia , where I live and when you see some of the crap they do release here , you wonder about the taste of the distributors . I noticed one reviewer complained that events happened too quickly to be believable , if that truly was the case there'd be no such thing as a one night stand .Ignore the negative reviews and sit back and enjoy one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen for quite a while .
This was the most beautiful movie I have seen in years. Wonderful message of acceptance for the young (teenagers) and old. I think that the US desperately needed this movie right now and the world can really benefit from it too. Also, what a fantastic and fearless lead actress! I can't wait to see more work of her and other transgender actors.Overall, a bittersweet story of the struggles of life as a transgender person who is trying to fit into our society. It leaves you wrapped around a fuzzy feel-good feeling.Go watch it, you will not regret it.
