As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

A short that doesn't use words and still manages to leave you speechless. A father goes away into the sea, leaving his young daughter behind. As the years pass, the daughter finds herself coming back to their parting place to wait for him.I find it beautiful how the longing that comes from losing a father is portrayed; through the fluid animation-- which contributes to showing the passing of the years and how everything is bound yo change, even when the longing doesn't--, through the music, the ringing of the bycicles... It all comes together to show the viewer how, even when there are always other bycicles on her life-path, she will always be waiting for her father.Another detail that adds to the emotionality of the short: the facial features of the characters are either shadows, or the details are simple and faint lines that evoke tenderness within the viewer. The ending is the cherry on top. It unfurls perfectly all that it has been building up since the moment the father left his daughter. A wordless masterpiece.

Father and Daughter is a great movie. It deeply impressed me without a word. This movie begins with a scene where a young man and his small daughter head for a cliff by bicycle. There are a small boat below the cliff. The father leaves a little girl there, and rowes for the horizon. After that she comes there to expect her father for life. Although all scenes are set in this cliff, you see how went on her lifetime. All she did in this film is riding a bycicle and stoping. But she sometimes brought her friends there, sometimes her boyfriend, and sometimes her son. I wonder if she is happy. Even she has many friends and her own family, she must feel lonely. She could not give up a empty hope that her father would be back someday. Because she is too young to understand why he leaves. And music is amazing. The piano sound added sadness. Everyone should see it and be amazed how beautiful and immortal a love of father and daughter is.

I never thought a short film with no dialogue, few colors and only 10 minutes length could get to people's hearts the way "Father and Daughter" does. It tells a girl's devotion to her father during her whole lifetime, from childhood to her elder days. No matter how many years pass by, she keeps on returning to the place where they said goodbye, hoping he'll be there, back to her. Besides the changing of her height, the other subtle hints the director gives us on the time passing are very natural. Nothing seems forced, and the art of the drawing is in the correct amount - if it had more details, it would lose its simple beauty; the same goes for the music that accompanies the story. In my opinion, the soundtrack is the most important part of a film, having the capacity to empower it and ruin it, and talking about "Father and Daughter" I have to say it was just right as a whole. The end is also extremely touching and when the film stops rolling we just feel our hearts fulfilled.

I know, it seems a pathetic advise. but ,really, "Father and Daughter" is special. because it is one of the most simple animations about life becoming, scene by scene, an eulogy for life. more than a film, it is a poem. a love poem. one who remains, long time after final credits, present in yourself. like a form of remember. or remind. a father. his daughter. bicycles. a boat. and the ways to that place. and, after a time, the last meet.it is unfair to say more than see it . because it is one of films about yourself. this is my feel. or certitude. so, see it !
