Cutting Class
High school student Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates: Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition?

Load of rubbish!!
Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
When I wanted to go to the store to buy the DVD for a very cheap price, I searched this movie up on youtube and someone uploaded it in parts. Thank goodness I didn't spend my money. I'm not much of a Brad Pitt fan, but I was curious to see his first major role in this low budget film. He was listed third in the top billing but he gets a lot of screen time being the boyfriend acting like a jerk. The story is about students who are being murdered one by one, and as an audience we keep on guessing who the killer is until the finale in this "whoduit" concept. Although I hate the fact the viewers already know who the killer is from the very start. While this movie is in the horror genre, there really isn't much gore as a horror fan might expect nor does it have any suspense like the movie "Scream." The movie also has a bit of a love triangle between our three main characters and some humor, but overall the movie fails to do so; we aren't given much about the characters so we don't really care what happens to them. The dialogue and acting could be a lot better since many of the lines sounded campy, and as if the writer may have written the script in one night and didn't have it proofread enough. I didn't mind this movie made on a low budget, but the story could've been better especially the acting. If you want to watch slasher film that you don't need to take seriously or need something to watch while doing something else or if you're just curious about seeing Brad in his first major role before he became a star, then this movie may be for you. After watching this movie, I even said to myself that I should remake this film. lol
Cutting Class, what can I say about that one. After half a hour watching nothing really happened except for one killing that isn't worth watching. Other things I saw were bikini's and underwear and of course cheerleaders. And still there is a killer prowling around. If you are into horror you will immediately know who the killer is so no suspense there. Yes, they are trying to mislead you by solving who the killer is but it is too late. By then you know that it really sucks. It's not bloody or scary even as they have put some nudity in it and first person shots of the killer. It's really a flick you watch as a teenager and to see Brad Pitt in his earlier performances. But it is also a perfect example why the slashers killed their selves. If it wasn't for Pitt the movie surely would vanish in the VHS era and would never be released on DVD, watch the sleeves, it's Pitt on it and that's all. For the teenagers around '89 there was another reason to watch this flick. Jill Schoelen. She was one of the idols around then and here she shows a bit of herself and she also was a bit of a name in the PG13 horror of that time. She's also know for Popcorn, The Bite 2 and of course the original The Stepfather were she's nude too. Admit it, with all the tools seen at the end they surely could have made a real slasher but instead they choose to make a copier as a killing subject?! This one is easy to find in bargains so don't hesitate to see a cutting crap.
if you're looking for a decent horror movie with brad pitt, go for it, but if you're looking to get scared, look elsewhere. brian woods should not have been allowed back into school- why didn't they realize how psycho this guy is? martin mull- his whole role was just running around yelling, and at the end he just told brad pitt to screw himself. this movie should have been called 'we're stupid because we let a psycho killer who killed his father back into school where people will get killed'. brad pitt doesn't seem like the type of person who would have any desire to be a murder type character, but i can see him being someone who is aggressive and passionate about killing the killer. so a good acting job by mr. pitt, way to go.
After doing five years of rehabilitation time, for killing his father, a still disturbed-looking Donovan Leitch (as Brian Woods) returns to town. The local newspaper, headlined "Boy Who Killed Father Released From Institution", is picked up by luscious-legged Jill Schoelen (as Paula Carson), wearing a T-shirt only. She promises her father she won't be "Cutting Class" while he goes on a hunting trip, or have brawny basketball boyfriend Brad Pitt (as Dwight Ingalls) sleep over. The action moves, mainly, to the local high school, where Mr. Leitch, Ms. Schoelen, and Mr. Pitt are students. According to some of their scripted conversations, the three have had some past relationships/rivalries.As dead bodies pile up, Schoelen is torn between Pitt and Leitch.Leitch, Schoelen, and Pitt do the best they can, under the circumstances. Leitch is the son of, not the original "Sunshine Superman", Donovan. Despite this being an early role for future superstar Pitt, he is too old to be playing a high school teenager. Schoelen, who played several roles like this, is also well past sixteen - but, bending over, she is still sweet. The three attractive "teenagers" are supported by the likes of randy Roddy McDowall (as Mr. Dante) and Martin Mull (as Mr. Carson). But, the best role (perhaps the film's ONLY good role, a manic janitor) is essayed by Robert Glaudini (as Shultz).**** Cutting Class (1989) Rospo Pallenberg ~ Donovan Leitch, Jill Schoelen, Brad Pitt
