The Thaw
At a remote Arctic research station, four ecology students discover the real horror of global warming is not the melting ice, but what's frozen within it. A prehistoric parasite is released from the carcass of a Woolly Mammoth upon the unsuspecting students who are forced to quarantine and make necessary sacrifices, or risk infecting the rest of the world.

Better Late Then Never
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Blistering performances.
Some Movies Deliver Their Messages, or Agenda in a Subtle Subtext of Symbolism or Analogous Connections. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) for Example is Often Stated as a McCarthy Era Reflection. However, Others State Their Intention in an Outright, Often Overwhelming Oratory of Stated Purpose and There is No Doubt Where "The Thing" Stands and it is On With the Show. This Horror Show is of the Latter. It is Quite a Horror Show and it Has Its Moments of Terror and Gore. But, This is Not Done For Laughs or Prurient Intent for the Teenage Crowd. It has a Cold Atmosphere of Isolation and Intrigues to a Point. Yes, There is a Bit of Questionable Behavior of the Grad Students, but the Film Makes Up for it in Outright Horrific Displays of Bug Infestation with Some Good SFX and Makeup. The Cast Waivers from Overacting to Believable. Overall, This is a Thoughtful Entertainment and it is Certainly Topical. This Might Seem Derivative, and it is, but is Handled Professionally and it is a Pertinent Picture in the Eco-Horror Genre. Above Average for This Type of Low Budget Message Movie.
For me,they don't come much better than this. I particularly like Science- based and\or Sci-Fi Movies and the more contemporary the better.Like most enthusiasts of this genre, for me a good Science Movie has to have a believable premise - and, with perhaps a small stretch of the Imagination - this one fits the bill. Plenty of "scary-jumpy" moments, small twists and all sorts of things going on prevent us from getting bored The script Is exceptional and my only complaint Is that two or three of the actors - mentioning no names - just weren't right for the part,or - to put It another way - couldn't act their way out of a paper bag! Well worth seeing twice.
I read one of the one star reviews - unfair criticism, because the reviewer missed some of the plot points. Although there are still a few illogical and improbable bits! This is an average chiller, with panicking youths struggling to survive a threat that stalks them.Acting, pace and soundtrack are so-so. The heroine is a bossy little thing, could be annoying, but there's a good amputation scene where she takes over from the gutless man.The twist at the end is well hidden and worthwhile, so that increases the rating to 6/10.
I enjoyed this movie I can see why others didn't as movies with religious or global warming reference's sometimes get unfair low ranting., I will say if you believe in global warming or not please put your views aside while you watch this movie and enjoy the fiction of it.I would have given this movie higher marks if the main lead girl was a better actor. What I liked about this movie is that everyone acted differently when faced with this prehistoric bug.I don't live giving long reviews so watch the movie and make up your own mind.
