As Good As It Gets
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
I was just surfing the web and found this movie and I soon rented it on my pad for the weekend. I finished it today, and I thought "Oh, my God!" In a GOOD way! What I MAINLY liked about this movie is the actual storyline. I prefer a Mystery/Horror movie to a Horror/Horror movie. It actually DID convince me to be scared of my dentist, but I laughed at myself after that. I did have a book with my while I watched it so that I could cover up any shots that were TOO gore. By gore, I mean close-ups of bloody mouths, such as when Dr. Feinstone stabs Jodi in the gum and blood sprays everywhere, and we see Brooke with her tongue cut out. AND when he 'tortures' Mr. Goldblum. And in one scene, Dr. Feinstone strangles Jessica to death and gave Karan a needle, and the air bubble travels to her brain and kills her. I had to cover the screen for THAT, too. There's also a lot of swearing in this movie, "Whore" is used loads, so is "Shit" and "Fucking". Well, Sarah reminds me of myself, the fact that she had her braces off. I got MINE off a month ago and NOW a have a plate.Overall, FOR CHILDREN? Almost CERTAINLY not. The VERY STRONG gore and violent scenes are VERY LIKELY to scare children and possibly some teenagers.
I felt myself enough adult, and educated,to watch this, and after I finished the first watch,I don't know why but today I've seen this again. It was maybe the 4-th time I've watched this, but this film still works very well. This is a real 90-s,USA-classic,a must see for all drama, and horror-crime-thriller interested person. It was award winner, but this is not as well know movie as some others. With only 2-and a half million as budget, this was low budget, but all of the main creators put passion to this.Corbin Brensen keeps the eye of the viewer, but I also loved the others, all of them in this film. You have enough reasons to see this movie,do not miss the opportunity.9/10
Well, I do like the gore in this movie - it is genuingly unsetteling. Anyone that's been to the dentist will know why. The story really isn't that bad, Corbin Bersen's character's motivations do make a lot more sense than in most horror movies.I've seen worse acting, directing, script, etc. but at the end of the day this is still a bad horror movie. So it comes down to if you enjoy that type of thing or not. I tried to watch the sequel, but it was exactly, exactly the same thing as this movie. Just keep in mind if you enjoy people getting tortured at the dentist, then this is the movie for you!
I am never going to the dentist again unless I see his wife beforehand. If he has some delicious piece of candy like Linda Hoffman, I'll pass.Corbin Bernsen played a demented dentist to perfection. he wasn't demented at the start, only after he caught his precious wife with Matt (Michael Stadvec) the pool boy. Then he used his dental powers to torture his patients, and his wife, in revenge.Really gory, especially if you don't like dentists anyway, and really hot when Linda Hoffman was on screen. It was a fun experience.
