It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

It got many merits. On the top of them is the writing. They did so many funny details to an extent tells you that they took so much time of hard working. Choosing the formula of underachievers-go-achievers is yes corny, but at least it was well served with droll characters, clear story lines and fair endings. And it's a rare time for a comedy to parody while keeping a "story" going on vivaciously as well, since most – let's be realistic and say all – the parodies lately got no story, or laughs either ! I loved many ironies, many situations, and some lines. Generally the performances were as good as the written material. And the directing managed to make catchy image and breathless pace. It's wonderful how this movie achieves its goods together as a comedy, parody, and – somehow – a movie about underachievers. The shortcomings aren't a lot. Their most dangerous one is – ironically – the lead actor (David Koechner). That guy can be fun and bearable for a supporting roles, such as the one he did nicely in (Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy – 2004). But he can't be watched for more time, as for a whole movie ! He's not that charismatic I guess, and sometime he's too annoying for his own good. (Brooke Nevin), as his daughter, was absolute silly, and no sexy, being a classic example for miscasting. The matter of the lead being a fugitive wasn't solved or utilized till the very end, most probably it was forgotten. And the rude sexual humor was just too much in a boring unfunny way; as if comedy is about nothing but sex. The gay remarks, the double meaning lines, and the members' jokes were endless, going on and on loosely, untidily, and crowdedly. It's watchable, enjoyable, and a bit gross. It succeeds on some levels, having a large amount of laughs. Definitely it has a sense of smartness; which's something happens accidentally nowadays. To understand why connect between the next : most of the disastrous parodies lately weren't screened for critics; so, if the producers saw it coming; how they green-lighted it in the first place ?! And knowing that (The Comebacks) wasn't too, then you must admit that those producers are the main reason of idiocy in today's Hollywood !

If it would of had Jack Black listed as the leading actor I would of stayed away from this movie right away. It actually makes some of his movies look good compared to this movie. This movie should of been filmed as a cartoon for ages 3-8 and it would of been a lot better. It is nothing but a bunch of the stupidest skits from other movies put together to make one big mess. The movie looks like it was shot in about one day with no thought at all behind it. There's a few times where it looks like maybe there's gonna be a turning point and the movie well actually have plot to the movie or at least a storyline would develop but the stupid skits inserted just ruin the whole movie.

Yes, everyone loves the Scary Movies and Hot Shots, but spoof films have really gotten out of hand. With disasters like Epic Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, etc, is there really anything left to be spoofed? Sure, I'm a guy who likes stupid comedies with bathroom humor, crotch kicks and all that stuff, but those movies just abuse it. Enter The Comebacks, a stupid, yet entertaining, take on the inspirational sports flick.David Koechner (best known as Champ Kind from Anchorman) finally gets a well deserved lead role and makes the most of it. Sure, all he does is act like a complete moron, but that's what Koechner does best. He just simply looks like he's having fun being a complete moron. Carl Weathers, a veteran of the Rocky films, lends a small supporting hand. There are some funny cameos by folks such as Dennis Rodman and Frank Caliendo. Some of the films spoofed successfully include Friday Night Lights, Remember the Titans, Rudy, Rocky and Coach Carter. Some sad spoof attempts are made at films such as Radio and Stick It. On the other hand, those who watch ESPN will like seeing sports issues spoofed such as the Duke lacrosse scandal, and Terrell Owens. So, if you're the type of person who's willing to laugh at stupid things...enjoy! If not, just skip and save everyone the complaining.

A comedy that spoofs the inspirational sports movies, The Comebacks tells the story of an out-of-luck coach, Lambeau Fields, who takes a rag-tag bunch of college misfits and drives them towards the football championships. In the process, this life-long loser discovers that he is a winner after all by redeeming himself, saving his relationship with his family and friends, and finding that there is indeed, no "I" in "team"!I decided to watch the unrated version for this film. It was thirty minutes longer and I though it may be better than the theatrical release, hearing that people hated this movie. After all, thirty minutes of extra footage can add a whole lot to a movie. Well, I certainly was wrong. It was as bad as the recent "Meet the Spartans" but it was thirty minutes more of torture!Seriously, who makes a close to two hour spoof movie?! A spoof movie is short because if it goes any longer, it would be overkill! Honestly, I love stupid comedies. Heck, I liked "Date Movie," "White Chicks," "Epic Movie," and "Little Man"! I guess when it comes to spoof movies, it is either a hit or miss and this one definitely missed. On the lighter side, from the many jokes in this film, I will say about six or seven made me laugh, even some that made me laugh out loud. But that's not saying much. Following those jokes were more scenes of torture and unfunniness.I can't see how people would say this is not a terrible spoof film. In fact, there is as much product placement in here like Meet the Spartans, there are as many dance sequences, and unfunny jokes. I will say another thing I like about this movie is the songs. They are some very good songs in here. Overall, watch it if you like spoof films. Skip it if you like funny films.
