That was an excellent one.
Good story, Not enough for a whole film
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is a fast-paced and very funny sports comedy that scores points for being centered around a sport that hasn't been the subject of too many movies. The movie stars Vince Vaughn playing one of his most likable characters, Peter LaFleur, the owner of a gym that is about to go under who puts together a rag-tag team of misfits to participate in a dodgeball tournament in Las Vegas in order to win the large cash prize.Prior to this movie, I had no idea that dodgeball was a team sport that has Olympic-like rules, displayed here In a hilarious training film that Peter shows his team. This premise sets up a classic Revenge of the Nerds-esque confrontation between Peter's team and a team from a rival gym that wants to buy Peter out, owned by the arrogant White Goodman (Ben Stiller).A romantic triangle is also set up with the presence of an accountant who has been hired to help Peter, but White ends up trying to pursue her as well. Ironically, this role is played by Ben Stiller's real-life spouse, Christine Taylor, who first caught our eye as Marcia in the two Brady Bunch movies.Vaughn is actually the straight man here to Stiller, who is hysterically funny here, as are Stephen Root, Chris Williams, and Alan Tudyk as members of Peter's team, Missi Pyle as a beast from White's team, Gary Cole and Jason Bateman as color commentators at the tournament, and especially Rip Torn as Patches Houlihan, the alleged Dodgeball legend who agrees to help coach Peter's team.Funny dialogue, music video-paced direction and cast that aims to please help to make this comedy worth checking out.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is a great movie with a well written storyline and a really great comedic cast. The movie is absolutely hilarious from start to finish,it wouldn't be on my list of favourite comedies, but it is a movie that whenever it is on TV I will watch and enjoy, and laugh at the exact same parts. This movie also has some very quotable lines, most of them coming from Ben Stiller's character White Goodman, who is without a doubt my favourite part of the movie,he was a very different character for Stiller and he played him very well.Dodgeball is a great movie that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good comedy. When his gym is in danger of closing down,Peter (Vince Vaughn) and some of his best customers and close friends enter in to a dodgeball tournament in order to win enough money to save his gym. Best Performance: Ben Stiller Worst Performance: Jason Bateman
In a storm of horrendous new comedies to come out at the beginning of the millennium (Aside from 2000's "Meet the Parents"), most were memorable yet others remained easily forgettable. Then came "Dodgeball" and suddenly I fell in love with a sport I barely knew existed, and a comedy where Ben Stiller's notoriously cartoonish nature just shined throughout."Dodgeball", is literally your "Average Joe" movie. Featuring dumb yet very lovable main "Joes", against the eccentric nut balls "Cobras" (A hilarious satire on people too much nowadays obsessed with physical perfection). But really if you came to find clever and wittiness in this movie, switch it off now because really if you're like everyone else you wanna see some DODGEBALL! Some of the hits in this movie will make you cry with laughter, and with teams like "Skillz that Killz", and the "Las Vegas P.D" etc. The film is very self aware and just has fun with itself.Vince Vaughn is a very likable character, and then you got Rip Torn who dishes out insults just as well as Seargent Hartmman did in "Full Metal Jacket" (1987). Add hilarious, yet pointless cameos from the likes of Lance Armstrong, William Shatner, David Hasselhoff and even CHUCK NORRIS no less. "Dodgeball" just gets funnier every time I see it.Final Verdict: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and... Dodge. 7/10. It's a highly re-watchable kind of silly.
Peter is an owner of a very average gym. But his rival gym is a super high-tech, fancy gym right across the corner.Peter must get 10,000 dollars to stop the evil owner of the other gym taking over his gym, and buying it. Peter, and his crew of people who go to his gym, see a dodge-ball tournament slot open for grabs. The prize: 10,000 dollars!Peter and his team barely make it through the first round, beating the Girl Scouts by disqualification because one of the Girl Scouts was using steroids. Ben Stiller is a great bad guy, and he proved it in this movie. It is very exciting to see Peter's team advance through the playoffs and eventually win the whole tournament.
