Wonderful Movie
hyped garbage
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Moving into a supposedly haunted house, an expectant couple finds the house has a strange affect on her and her unborn twins and eventually forces them to call upon help from the Vatican to combat the evil within the house. While this one maybe quite enjoyable in terms of being a horror/comedy, there's still some big flaws here with this one. The main issue here is the fact that the film feels way too loose and chaotic, as if there's nothing on-hand but a group of friends riffing around and ad-libbing the entire time without making anything make sense. This doesn't feel like a true, cohesive effort here as not only is behavior completely different from scene-to-scene with no real cause for what's happening at all, but the way the whole thing is treated like a joke tends to make light of the situation as horror elements are all dropped in favor of the all- mighty joke when it's really not all that funny, itself another problem here. It comes off like a series of in-jokes and references between friends goofing off on-set rather than anything to do with an actual story, and that causes a ton of the jokes to fall flat when they're not beating them into the ground wearing out its welcome either. These tend to cause a rather overlong series of gags that aren't funny to begin with and become increasingly agonizing as they go along, though in spite of these problems there's some good here as well. Sometimes, the fact is that the gags and jokes work, especially when spoofing the traditional confines of the haunted house effort of him continually bumping into everything in the house after it was moved there unexpectedly, his battles with the lamp that continually shock him or the numerous hilarious gags with the exorcists that come in through the last half here which give this one quite a fun ride as the battle with the demon baby in the bedroom is quite fun and exciting, while packed with some nice action and some nice gory kills to make for a nice time here. Likewise, once this kicks into the third act preparing for the actual birth there's some fun to be had here with the way these signal her upcoming change and aren't nearly as boringly moronic as the rest of the film is. These, along with the rather up-beat pace that regardless of the quality of the jokes running throughout never causes this one to lose its pace allows it to come off rather well and makes for its good parts to overcome its few flaws.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Language, Full Graphic Nudity, Graphic Violence, sexual acts and drug use.
This movie is a very good example of the horror/comedy or dark comedy genre. It has a very talented and recognizable cast (even if they are not A list actors). It is basically meant to be a celebration and parody of the majority of modern horror films, much like "Scary Movie". However, this seems more fresh and original than the "Scary Movie" series has been lately. It hits on ever modern stereotype of horror, so do expect a few jump scares. This movie is not meant to be taken seriously so i would not suggest it to a person wanting a real horror film... That being said, this is a very funny movie and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.
This movie was a real breath of fresh air. I watch more horror than the average person and feel pretty jaded as far as story lines - I'm just so tired of the same old thing. This satire helped to relieve my suffering. The priests in particular were great in their spoofs of The Omen as well as Father Guido Sarducci. It was low budget but I liked the way the actors played their roles and they seemed to have a good rapport. The cops were pretty damned funny. I love independent horror and this just has the great feel of art ..people who really give a crap about the product instead of personalities and money. Reject corporate movies people and open your eyes to small movies that people care about.
what I saw really bored me, and annoyed me. As I did not know anything about the film, I had no preconceptions, and initially the first scenes made me think it was a genuine horror film. Then the quirky dialogue and characters encouraged me as I thought it's a horror film but an unconventional one, left field horror. Then the scenes with the exorcists in the Vatican annoyed me - and it gradually dawned on me that the film had skipped genres, perhaps unintentionally, from horror to indy anarchy, to crap attempt at comedy.Yes it was original to begin with, the quirky humour almost elevating the fright element - but soon the comic ideas were going around in a loop. e.g. the neighbour kept popping up, essentially the same joke again and again....but why was the central male character not questioning this?? There was a certain lack of logic and realism that went against the initial visual style and ' horror genre' present in the film.Horror comedy is notoriously difficult to get right - perhaps Bob Hope's The Cat and The Canary may be the best attempt at it - but see that long roster of weak Abbot and Costello horro-coms, and patchy Scary Movies. This did come across as weak version of Scary Movie. The comedy in it demanded more originality - as in the brilliantly delivered gags in that ultimate spoof Airplane - and a bit more realism (the lead actress in my opinion was wrong for the part). The relationship between the couple broke down early on but the husband barely questioned it.Though I am sure the film makers would defend this film as a pastiche or fond tribute, I saw it as a mixed up jumble, often relying on clichés of the horror genre, and therefore disrespecting that genre, and lacking substance as a comedy. Sorry.
