All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

This movie is just garbage. Sorry if this counts as a spoiler, but there's no discernible plot other than "giant insects are attacking." Most of the characters are interchangeably bland and non- important, so I'm not even sure how many are left unless they're all together in one room for a headcount. The main character is supposed to come off as funny (I guess) but ends up being just obnoxious, like if Ryan Reynolds had his IQ bumped down 30 points or so.Worst of all, however, is that this movie doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a monster movie? Is it a spoof of a monster movie? Are the rampant clichés put there on purpose, or is it just a lack of originality? Do the characters do and say deliberately dumb things because it's supposed to be funny? Or was this movie written by people who have no idea how real humans act?On the other hand, the special effects are well-executed. Whoever did the insect effects in this film could be on the crew of a Naked Lunch remake. Other than that, I'm not sure how this film has gotten such great reviews, except that maybe most people who like good films have never heard of it. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this trash heap straight out of Amateurville.

Forget the horror or sci-fi elements to this film. They suck and are the usual unimaginative CGI-rendered garbage you expect from low budget genre films these days. The reasons to see this movie are the humor and the two leads. Chris Marquette (who I've never heard of) does a fantastic job as the quirky leading man. He's charming, self-deprecating, and immensely likable. Brooke Nevin is pretty and funny, with nice comedic banter with Marquette. You find yourself rooting for them as the movie progresses. The rest of the cast is OK, with only the always-good Ray Wise as a standout.I'm tempted to give it a higher score, and if I were just to score it compared to other low-budget sci-fi/horror films of the 2000s, it would certainly rate higher. But I don't rate that way. The direction is amateur, the plot ordinary and predictable, and the special effects look like they were made on a home computer. But see it anyway for the great chemistry and humor between the two leads.A point of contention among many would be the ending. Without giving it away, I'll just say the movie tries to play cute with the ending and I'll leave it to you to judge whether they were successful or not. It personally doesn't detract from the movie to me since I was only superficially invested in the plot and more interested in the characters.

Disregard the poor reviews....I have seen, and own, hundreds of 'monster horror' films, and this one, which I went into with low expectations (only buying it because it was $2 at a Blockbuster closing)impressed and entertained me very much. Having a very likable lead, in the John Cusack mold, helped greatly, but the effects were more than decent, and the writing was sharp and funny. Many of these type films have cookie-cutter dialog, but I laughed out loud a few times, when the writing caught me off guard. A favorite was when Cooper tells his dad his bold plan to rescue Sara from the hive, to which his dad replies "Let me tell you a little story......YOU'RE AN IDIOT!".....that was so out of the blue, that I burst out laughing, which I don't normally do. Ray Wise's delivery of the line was just right. So buy the film....it's cheap on Amazon. I just bought a second copy for a movie-loving friend. You could do a LOT worse.....trust me.

On a typical workday deadbeat mild-mannered goofster Cooper (Chris Marquette) shows up at work. Late. Again. And in a whole lot of trouble for badmouthing clients. Again. Just as soon as he shows up at work he get the long-deserved can by his boss... only for a loud noise to knock them unconscious. Cooper wakes up a few days later wrapped in an insect's web. After freeing himself and fighting off an overgrown dung-beetle he manages to rescue a group of rag-tag individuals, who now have to survive in a world overtaken by giant insects.Never one to expect much from a sci-fi channel movie I was quick off my blocks to disregard this one as a certified turd. The opening sequence surprised me as to the special effects quality, which were much more decent than average low-budget productions. Then we are quickly introduced to Chris Marquette's character, a amiable slacker with a unabashed level of charm to him. Being the focal point of the movie it sure does help that Chris does such a bang up job at making you fond of him within the opening five minutes. However admirably the movie jumps on you unexpected it does have a few gaping plot holes the size of the infestation's nest. The least of which is the supposed blindness of the insects. Nonetheless this is one of those tongue-in-cheek movies, which manages to go the distance at endearing its audience, so all such flaws are easily forgiven. It may not be the funniest comedy horror at there and at times it does feel like a sub-par TV movie, but the overall enjoyment shows that "Infestation" manages to pull off what it aimed at. It won't become a classic or be covered in glory, but the director has to be commended for almost flawlessly executing the game-plan and delivering a sweet, charming monster flick for an entertaining Saturday evening. The movie ends with a real cliffhanger and I for one will be sure to check up the follow-up to this below-the-radar little gem.
