I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

'Batman: Gotham Knight (2008)' is an anthology of short movies that all centre on the eponymous hero supposedly in the era between 'Batman Begins (2005)' and 'The Dark Knight (2008)', though in execution this doesn't really work as there are elements completely inconsistent with Nolan's world - as well as his continuity - and the non-chronological nature of the story renders any supposed time-frame essentially moot. The through-line initially appears to be the Bat as seen through outside sources, the mystifying of this near-mythological man, but soon we switch perspectives to be inside the suit, so to speak, and the stories then alternate between pseudo origin-stories and more traditional crime-stopping capers. The theme would therefore seem to be the demystification of this myth, building him up as such and then breaking him back down into a man in a cape doing his best for his city. Yet, this isn't conveyed as successfully as you'd hope as the back and forth of the stories doesn't hammer home the perspective switch and the flashback plots don't reveal anything too revelatory, anything that should change the way we see our protagonist. Plus, some of the beats in specific scenes are strange, to say the least, and aren't explored enough to warrant their inclusion or their contrast to the other versions of the same character seen sometimes minutes later. Each segment does seem separate from one another, not just visually. Still, despite the not-so-stellar reasoning for the format, it is nice to see several smaller, original stories that are satisfying on their own and wouldn't find a home elsewhere. Their anime-inspired execution is refreshing as well, with each brought to life in a distinct and usually delightful way. The only segment I actively disliked from an aesthetic approach was 'In Darkness Dwells', which was told entirely via cantor-angles, was oddly disproportionate and was, frankly, unnecessarily grotesque (and I mean in the most mundane of areas). Another small nitpick is that I feel the title cards, which separate the stories, should have been styled uniquely to fit their respective narrative, as the first one was. This is small but would have gone a long way in establishing the tone of the following scenario. While some segments are naturally less successful than others, the effect of the overall picture is an enjoyable and refreshing one. It isn't as compelling, or even as entertaining, as a lot of the other animated Batman movies I've seen recently, mainly because of its lack of an overarching narrative and, consequently, characters to properly invest in. Yet, it is a fun watch in its own way and an excellent addition to any fan of the Dark Knight's repertoire. 6/10

Batman Gotham Knight is a perfect second chapter in The Dark Knight series as it tells six short stories that chronicle Batman's beginning in his war on crime after the events of Batman Begins and a fascinating exploration of his troubled psyche as a man fighting against injustice. As an anime it is wildly imaginative and visually stunning with a great score.Excellent voice performances all around including veteran Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Jim Meskiman as Deadshot.Batman Gotham Knight is an excellent must watch for all fans of Christopher Nolan's Batman series and Batman movies.

Batman the Gotham Knight is a collection of 6 animated Batman stories all intertwining to create a different creative look at the overall series; by the word "different," I really mean just that. From an aesthetic point of view I find the movie to be quite attractive; the colors, choice of art styles and overall animation is simply beautiful. Although not consistent with the former visuals of the batman series I find this newer adaptation to be obversely hip and seemingly refreshing. If forced to categorize, I would say that this movie feels more like a story from the Spawn series rather than the trusted intrinsics of the DC universe. In any case it brings home plenty of action, crime fighting and the familiar philosophical debate about the motives of our "trusted" super hero. The voice acting by Kevin Conroy is as always; impeccable, while the background music gives us an overall "larger than life feeling." The writing of the connecting stories seemed to be captivating: each different to the other while effortlessly fitting in the story line progression. The editing and execution of the scenes was fluent and generally a pleasure to follow; be it mildly annoying at first. I found myself initially disliking the direction of the movie, but as the scenes rolled on, I found it to be enjoyable in its entirety. This movie is not for everyone and fans of the series may find the new adaptation to be out of character and slightly slanted in comparison with previous titles. However in all fairness I found myself caring for the lead character more this time around as his human frailty and sadness really came to light. In a world of re-emerging creative adaptations we find the character of Bruce Wayne even more illusive and jaded this time around. Overall this is a great and creative new look at the Batman franchise. I wouldn't particularly be interested in seeing this style become mainstream, however for a once in a while "sort of thing," it stands to be a very unique experience.

When Christopher Nolan's, "The Dark Knight", was being released, Warner Bros. Animation and some Anime studios (Including Madhouse and Production I.G.) worked on an anime anthology film similar to other anime anthology films like, "The Animatrix" and "Halo: Legends".Pro's: The film has some great animation and the voice acting was great especially having Kevin Conroy returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Also, some of the segments were interesting including the segment, "Walking through the Pain". It follow's Bruce Wayne traveling to India to learn how to control pain from a girl.Con's: The segment's, "Have I got a Story for you" and "Field Test", were boring.Overall, "Batman: Gotham Knight", is a great Anime flick and worth watching if you're into Anime or a fan of Batman.
