Plenty to Like, Plenty to Dislike
Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Nude Raves, women in cages, and Kim Cattrall with a bad German accent sounding like Terri Garr in "Young Frankenstein. What was not to like? The acting was ham. The script was nonsense and dialogue humorous.Van Helsing: "You would being willing to drive a stake through someone's heart and you don't believe in vampires?" Gabriel Casseus: "I need this job."There is really no horror in this movie. It is a comedy, but not a laugh out loud type of comedy. It is a cult comedy and viewable even with Casper Van Dien.
Do not waste your time on this... there are no words for how aggressively awful it is. The effects are terrible. The performances by some fairly well known and seasoned actors are dreadful despite their best efforts. The story is amateurish, at best. The only reason I could surmise for having such well known actors, is that it was directed by Richard Elfman, the brother of Danny Elfman. Only watch it if you're like me and enjoy watching awful movies, just to see how awful they are. Do not be deceived by the review shown on the page by a "mopedcecil". On further examination, the user wrote three shining reviews all were Richard Elfman movies. So, me thinks it is none other than the trash auteur himself. Be warned...
A complete romp of a vampire movie. Tired of hackneyed vampiric angst? Tired of vanilla Hollywood vamps? Do you prefer your undead driving Camaros, smoking huge cigars and listening to The Reverend Horton Heat? This may just be the film for you. I don't think I stopped grinning at any point during this movie, except when I was laughing. This is a vampire film for people who like movies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Snakes on a Plane, Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town and From Dusk Till Dawn. It certainly isn't Nosferatu, but it will expose the entire Blade trilogy and every Anne Rice film adaptation to the sun and then stake them through the heart whilst screaming the Lords Prayer, and at a budget that probably amounts to about the same as two episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Highly recommended, everyone who reviewed it badly needs to chill the hell out.
yes , i admit it , i am a vampire movie fan and have seen a lot of em ( my collection now comprises about 170 of these movies ) and modern vampires is definitely in the top 20 . it is a really witty film with a great cast and first class directing on a limited budget . sure the special effects are not always top notch , but special effects never did a movie ( if it was the case , then independence day and star wars episode one would be good ). rod sterling is one of many great actors in this movie but absolutely steals the show here and gives the funniest van helsing performance ever in hollywood . all in all , a very enjoyable movie for anyone and a sure treat for vampires fan to forget the blunders of the 2 blade movies or the sequel to the already bad dracula 2000
