Good story, Not enough for a whole film
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
The first must-see film of the year.
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Patrick Muldoon takes over in this sequel(no Charlie Sheen) playing the half-brother of Zane Kominski, who has been found dead(!) according to a news report. Muldoon then becomes involved with Zane's quest after he is given an envelope from Zane, and told to meet other people in an abandoned building, who also have envelopes, supposedly with details about the alien invasion, still ongoing. The meeting goes badly when they are attacked by an alien weapon, and must go on the run to stop this second arrival...Misconceived sequel with inadequate F/X, a slashed budget, and a story that is just a rehash of the first. Muldoon tries, but bland film is eminently forgettable.Only saw it because it was released as a double feature DVD with the first.
Since I loved the original (The Arrival) so much, any sequel was going to be hard-pressed to beat it. But I certainly thought this one would be better than what I saw. The Second Arrival merely rides on the coattails of the original and adds little, if any, to the story. The budget for this film is quite evident, as they even steal special effects from the original and use it as their own. Perhaps they were just trying to get viewers to identify this movie with the first, but the attempt is lame. For quite some time I thought it starred Rob Lowe in the lead, but it's actually Patrick Muldoon. I'd swear those two are twins. This movie picks up with Zane Zaminsky's death from a "supposed" heart attack. With the event of his death, envelopes are mailed to several of Zane's close colleagues and contacts with information on how earth is occupied by an alien presence. This informed few try to discover more about the aliens while also trying to survive. 3/10
It sucks completely. Poorly made. I felt embarrassed for everyone involved in the film. Really bad action shots, terrible special effects. CHEESY, I mean really, cheesy explanation of events. Uhhh, man, give me back my 2 hours!!!!
led to believe by the other comments here. OK, it was low-budget and the final sequence could have been extended and it is unclear why the imploder's lights are the opposite of those in the first film, but it does work as a sequel, picking up where the first movie ended and building to a resolution. If you get the DVD with both movies on it, give this one a watch and see for yourself.
