Fresh and Exciting
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
My favorite phrase in the whole film is 'My name is Viktor.' The charisma with which the actor playing Victor says these lines absolutely amazes me. It's almost like listening to the Casanova of murder. The film Interview with a Hit-man opens up with a series of disconnected scenes that later come together like the pieces of a puzzle, and then the story plays out. The only thing I didn't like the film was that I felt it was a bit too violent and so realistic. However the violence was toned down, and some of it even justified in the end.
Typical tough guy too cool for everything hit man character without emotion except when he sees a woman getting beaten like his mother then he supposedly jumps into righteous hero mode. Predictable and formulated with incessant droning music that makes you want to take a bullet yourself just to end the monotony. And enough with the shaky camera, it literally does not stop quivering for a split second during the whole movie. Even reigning hand held twitchy kings like the Bourne flicks take a break from that once in a while during the story. The twist at the end is not even enough to rescue this flick from an hour and a half exercise in dreariness.
Growing up in Romania young Viktor joined organised crime to stay alive and pay off bills. This segment was long, violent without purpose, dreary, boring, and hopefully relevant at some point.Viktor hopes to align himself with a different crime group in the UK after being betrayed by his old group. Lots of fighting and killing ensues. He gets to meet some of his childhood acquaintances, and deal with an old issue or two.Does he do better with this group?------Scores-------Cinematography: 5/10 Good some of the time, but wobbly more often. The sepia segments I could have done without entirely. There were entirely too many minutes spent where no one is doing anything and the horrid music plays.Sound: 5/10 Yikes. The sound level of conversation tends to be too low, and has accompanying buzz/hiss. This is not an asset. Incidental music is jarring and irritating.Acting: 5/10 Stale, clichéd, boring. I did not believe Luke Goss for a minute. Since he is the centre of the piece, that is rather annoying. The other actors do not make up for it. Versus Daniel Craig, or Matt Damon, or Jason Statham, or Brad Pitt, or Gerard Butler, or even Aaron Eckhart, this guy is an emotionless, empty scarecrow to be blown away. I cannot imagine him accomplishing anything useful.Screenplay: 6/10 Long on development, short on delivery.
It is about damn time, an underdog low budget movie is straight up done good. The storyline, good, the acting (for the most part) good, no over the top ridiculousness, very believable. Everybody's gripes about how the rating is to low is exactly right. This is a very good movie and can easily make my top 50. Not a lot of Hollywood, which makes this movie even better. Two thumbs way up. The worst part of the movie, is they tend to talk a little low so I had to turn on the subtitles and you have to pay attention to the names and who is who, because it jumps around a little in time. Other than that, it is a solid movie and deserves to have it's rating brought up to at least a 7. I would probably put it at 7.25.
