Really Surprised!
I'll tell you why so serious
Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
I love the fact that this movie didn't follow the typical "Something bad happens then I learn from my mistakes and get the girl" theme. It was a movie of learning things about yourself and making mistakes along the way. "Knowing is half the battle" they say and this movie illustrates that quote perfectly. The character Bobby has always been himself no matter the situation. Even when things got 'hot' between Johns mother and him his faith never wavered for a second. The entire movie I kept waiting for the moment when he would put the moves on her and was very relieved when he didn't.Making Bobby and Jonathan bisexual and homosexual puts that twist on it to where it can't be a typical story. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this film really brings to light events that actually happen in real life, that everything doesn't just magically get fixed; you just learn from your problems and deal with them as they come.
So often, the awards go to the feel-good or dramatic movies with the classic themes of boy meets girl, boy wins girl or murderer is caught. When the subject is way different, and there are some twists and turns Mr. Common Man isn't ready for, the movie is often over looked.I loved the acting in this movie, as well as the writing. The interrelations of these 3 is wonderful to watch, but you are not surprised at the outcome. I really don't know if ANYONE can handle a menage a trois for their entire lives. This movie could not have been made, or it would have had an entirely different effect 30 years ago. Spoiler" We all know what the purple bruise is, and know that the kid will be dead soon, since the time placement is way before they come out with AIDS cocktails to turn a death sentence into a chronic situation. We know how the movie will end as soon as we see the purple bruise. And the fact that the kid is sticking it out makes us have a lot of faith in him. Even though we know that HE probably will have sex with his buddy and also go down, since they didn't know it was catching then. The beautiful scenes at the farm, the ceremony of the two young men dumping the ashes of one's father are quite tender. It's a very innocent film and beautiful in the love they have for one another. You can't help but think that yes, the mother WILL return with Rebecca knowing the love that awaits her there. The message that love can exist among many people, and the idea that non-conniving love is possible makes this a great little movie.
This film is about two men, who were more than best friends in their teenage years, meeting again after years apart. They have a complicated relationship together with a quirky female flatmate."A Home at the End of the World" tells the gripping tale of Bobby's life, who was orphaned during his teenage years. He meets a nerd called Jonathan, and their friendship soon blossoms into something more. This transition is subtle and yet convincing. Years later, Bobby joins Jonathan and Clare in the big city. The three of them soon develops palpable tension, which is expertly crafted. The film takes you right into their thoughts and feelings. It's a simple low budget film without any fancy effects, but it is emotionally complex and layered. All three major characters' feelings get explored equally and adequately."A Home at the End of the World" is a beautifully crafted drama about an unusual love triangle. I enjoyed watching it.
There haven't been many movies to leave me in tears while causing me to laugh and smile tremendously at the same time. With other movies like "The Broken Hearts Club" and "Mysterious Skin," the beautiful love stories and tragic plot twists make this movie into a piece of cinematic magic. The subject matters of the movie are the reasons it didn't reach a wider audience in the end, but as long as the viewer keeps an open mind to the same-sex relationships and the drug usage then I feel everyone will come to love the movie.Envy, love, sadness, and desirers of my own emerge after watching this movie. There are so many things that touch me on a deeply personal level in this movie and I've got a feeling I'm not alone. If you haven't seen this movie before, I urge you to run out now and find it either at a video store or order it online. A word of caution: for your first time, don't watch this movie alone. It's not because it's too sad or horrific, but it would be good to have someone around for the passions that come up.I hope I didn't spoil anything for you, but there is no way to do this movie justice. And remember...while white may go with everything, it's a house and not an outfit they are talking about. And in the end, it goes from just being their house, to being a love-filled home.
