Absolutely Fantastic
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS I voted higher than I really wanted to because there is no way this movie is what it's currently rated at which is 4.6. It wasn't a '10' but it was a well written and acted romantic comedy/drama. I actually would not call this a romantic comedy. I would characterize it more of a drama with comedy on the side.I thought the story was entertaining and believable and the actors all did a good job. It has all of the dysfunctional family drama that drives the plot of this type of movie with the prerequisite lessons learned and ******SPOILER ALERT****** happy ending. I am a lover of all things romance and LOVE my predictable Hollywood happy endings. No more french 'slice of life' independent flicks for me.I really enjoyed this move and even cried at the end....so watch it if you haven't. It won't be the best movie ever but I doubt you'll be upset that you took the time.
I watched this movie because I love my gf. And she likes to watch girly movies sometimes. I struggled to keep quiet and act like everything was alright- like we were watching a regular movie. We weren't.The acting was alright- I just think these people were fed a bogus script. This movie wasn't very different than watching a novela- soap opera. Not that I do watch this- but it reminds me of that kind of thing. It's not very funny. It lasts forever. Just when you think the movie is probably coming to a close- they devise a plot appendage- and the **** just keeps going and going some more.As I mentioned, the actors, not bad. There are a couple of good ideas in it too- the thing about the broom. But that's just not enough to make a movie- and then have the audacity to release this. I'm especially shocked to see the high ratings this has on IMDb- really a shame. I can watch a 4 point o movie, but this is not that. Don't watch this. Please. I watched this so you don't have to.
I rented this movie without expecting much but a few chuckles, what received instead was a new favorite movie and a very pleasant surprise! "Jumping the Broom" is a fantastic movie that is fun, powerfully emotional, and genuine. One walks away from the movie with a new and improved good mood! The characters are incredibly easy to relate with on all levels. They are well rounded, but not too complex. It was quite entertaining to follow the different love connections throughout the movie. There is definitely something for each person to take away from the movie and I highly recommend it to every person, everywhere! I did not want this movie to end and will be re-watching many, many more times!! two big thumbs up!!
I am sorry I did not see in the theater. Yes, it covers a lot of common issues, but with a different slant. This to me was different than the movie "Our Family Wedding" because it dealt with black culture from a totally different nationality wedding tradition. This movie deals with culture within a culture. In this day and age so much is available to us with just a key stroke, it is difficult not to touch on what is familiar. We are in an information age so much is not surprising these days. I don't think we have seen many movies who deal with issues about black mothers and how they treat their sons as this one has. Also the touch on jumping the broom and where the tradition came from and what it represented was addressed also and needed for those who don't know. Kind of reminds us that we don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak. We can include our traditions along with adding changes. Most of all don't give your cookies away to any and everybody! I say this is a good product. Kudos to the producers, directors, cast and crew... thanks for a job done well.
