I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much

Broadcast News is a film that gives an insight into the daily goings on within a Washington based news company. The film focuses mainly on three individuals; 2 x male television reporters Tom Grunick and Aaron Altman (William Hurt and Albert Brooks respectively) and executive producer Jane Craig (Holly Hunter). With both men employed at the television company, an awkward love triangle develops when Jane falls for Tom and Aaron falls for Jane...Sky Movies proudly boasts Broadcast News as being an Oscar Winning comedy and to be fair given the premise I didn't expect this to be in-your-face comedy and was looking for something that would prove to be suitably humourous. However, in my book there is a very fine line between subtle humour and almost non-existent humour and herein lies the problem with Broadcast News...Maybe that's part of the problem in that I was sold on in being a comedy and in fairness whilst it does have amusing moments here and there it doesn't have enough funny moments to work as a comedy. OK so what does that leave us with? Well we do get an insight into the daily goings on of a news channel (mildly interesting, but not really strong enough to carry the majority of the film). Therefore if you take this aspect out of the film then you are merely left with a love triangle between the 3 leads - this takes up the bulk of the focus and sadly is the least interesting aspect of the entire film.The only thing that partly redeems this film is Holly Hunter whose superb central performance really 'anchors' the film (obvious pun). She's the heart and soul of the film and really lights up the screen whenever she's in front of the camera. Her co-stars are all OK I suppose, but no-one else really makes the same impact as Hunter and they all fail to really make any kind of impression on the picture.In Broadcast News though things end up going from bad to worse with a tagged on silly ending which added nothing and felt completely unnecessary. Still it seems that mine is a minority opinion (the critics seemed to love it), but for a film whose main focus seemed to be on a rather boring love triangle centring on 3 mostly uninteresting individuals then the end result is sadly a film that I found to be a fairly uninvolving experience.

This is a 80s movie about a TV news station. Maybe you expected some great investigation cases but here's it's not the subject : it's just about how competitive and seducing coworkers can do their job. I really like how this under pressure office can foster nice, close and genuine relationships between the team. However i don't understand why the movie is so dully written : characters don't talk clear and simple and after a time, it's really confusing ! The cast is great and Holly shows she can be a true manager. The faraway distant Nicholson is a funny add-on. At the end, even if the movie doesn't really delivers a hit, it's more entertaining than the dreadful « morning glory » that fails with everything the two movies share !

As a big fan of James L Brooks and the many TV shows and movies he has created, I hated this movie. It is like he stuffed the "The Mary Tyler Moore show" into a simmering pot: the intimidating, annoying, OCD producer "Mary"(I really like Holly Hunter but hated her in this movie); "Murray" the sensitive, affectionate, humorous colleague who's trying to get promoted; an actually professional and charming tho still style over substance anchorman "Ted Baxter", and even a "Sue Ann" with a big closet. (More precisely, the last 3 seasons of MTM, when the show sort of turned into "The newsroom show" itself. ) A great deal of the plot resembles the TV show: "Murray" falls in love with "Mary", "Mary" gets a big promotion, and the dramatic ending too (not to spoil too much)! He added some this and that, spiced everything up, gave "Mary" a little more character, put in some more romance etc. After that, he puts on the "head" and "tail", and that's it.Let MTM aside and speaking the movie itself, the opening "childhood" scenes seems unnecessary and irrelevant, (Although the opening does do a great job at arising my interest in the movie, it's cute and sort of a joke on the people that work in news) none of the characters reflected any of the scenes later in the movie. The ending is corny and doesn't really add anything to the movie or whatever it is that it's trying to express. The rest, the plot, is complicated and confusing: At first I thought this was a movie about the "newsroom", the news staff family and the excitement of broadcasting news. Which makes sense because the name is "Broadcast News". And indicating from the opening scene, the three characters are identified by their professions, instead of "future girl in love" "future best friend of girl""future man the girl's in love with". Then, I thought this is a love story: he loves her, but she loves him, and he loves somebody else...then, I thought it's really about friendship: she's been in love with the wrong man the whole time, maybe she will go to the one who really loves her...I thought I'd found out in the end, but the ending doesn't explain or define anything.It's none and maybe all of them, and it doesn't do any of them well. There's no clear plot, just random events happening and emotions flying around. In all it's flavorful but hard to swallow.I wasn't inspired nor touched perhaps a little stimulated by the intensity of the news room, which I expected but not getting nearly enough. And comedy? Yes there were one-liners and a mild slapstick scene, but then I might as well just watch the MTM.

Wow, I thought this movie was great. It was captivating and easy to keep up with. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see the whole movie but the story still made sense. The love triangle between Tom, Aaron, and Jane was also quite interesting. Jane was in love with Tom but Aaron was in love with Jane. But the part that stood out most to me was the shoulder kiss. Jane came over to Aaron's home just for moral support and Aaron just had to go and made it awkward. A handshake or simple hug wasn't enough for Aaron, he just had to go and kiss her. But the real question is: Why the shoulder? What is significant about Jane's shoulder. I mean yes, she has nice shoulders but is it worth a kiss. If someone kissed my shoulder, I would be uncomfortable. Boyfriend or not, it is still weird. In addition, she was still in love with Tom. In conclusion, this movie gave the inside scoop on what journalism is really like and the places where you can kiss someone. I gave 7 stars because I think this movie deserves more recognition than it is getting.
