Pretty Good
Awesome Movie
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
It May not be Black & White, but Brick does follow the same structure as a film noir because of its mystery sort of feeling or mood to it. I like the modern take of it and especially the characters, like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, all do an amazing job of playing their characters.I Think the general tone, or mood of the film is a typical murder mystery type of thing, but with all the characters played as Teens it does add a weird and goofy kinda feeling to it. With the mysterious mood of the film, it left me with a desire to know what happens next through out the entire film. After watching it, it keeps you thinking after everything comes together and makes sense in the end. The dialogue does alienate the audience a bit but it also doesn't. I would say the films dialogue does make it seem like it was for sure from a different time from today which gives it a quality of unfamiliarity but not too much to the point where it completely alienates the audience.I really liked the film from its mysterious mood and its slightly foreign dialogue. They do a great job of making a modern film noir and though it might not be an insanely high budget film the story was all around great and i wouldn't change a thing.
Brick is a movie that in some points follows the basic structure of a film noir; such as, the main story line of solving a mysterious murder. Most of the time, the film tries to use the classic film noir structure, but blending with punk and gang styles. What actually happens is a boring and static way to tell a possible interesting story ruined by some bad and confusing dialogues. The dialogue that the film tries to incorporate fails again despite the interesting vocabulary used. The film doesn't establish a connection between the characters and the public. Both aspects ruined the experience that I had with the movie. However, the acting of the main character is good and the interesting shots of the movie help to make it watchable.
"Review for Brick"Brick it's a movie which releases the classic film noir, without some classics features like detectives, tobaccos and hats, but with codes, language, active narrator, filming angles, the dark interiors, the shutters and the visual characteristics. The main character, a cunning young college student, but who goes unnoticed as the hero trying to unravel the mystery surrounding Emily's disappearance. This movie is about a lonely teenager who investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Emily, who has recently joined a more popular and also more dangerous group. With the help of Brain, Brendan's investigation takes him to a group of drug traffickers led by The Pin. And the one who first appeared to be more of a brownie, turns out to be a fierce and determined hero, who takes advantage of the strengths and weaknesses of each one to achieve their attempts.Although this film has a stylized dialog it does not distract the public, because is a very easy and don't have to keep the public away, so I liked the film because, the story is very good and the way the authors managed to mix a teenage scene with the classic style of film noir was very good.
Brick was an interesting mix of a film noir style in a modern high school environment. I enjoyed the film, as it was one that stood out to me as I have not seen such a unique idea come to the screen. I feel like Brick followed the same story structure as a noir. The common formula is that the viewer is presented with a mystery, and is given another piece of the puzzle after that until it all comes together. Brick followed this common path of film noirs, although I felt that the ending could have been stronger. Instead of explaining everything and spoon feeding the big twist at the end, it could have shown us (perhaps with the use of flashbacks) instead of telling us. The general tone of the film is portrayed as the high school setting being very harsh, laced with the classic popularity hierarchy that gives another interesting dimension to the film. I think that Brick's style of dialogue is very smart. It holds that classic dialogue from other noirs, showcasing a pleasant homage to films such as Casablanca, Bladerunner, etc. In essence, the film was good, but not great. It presented interesting dialogue, camera/editing techniques, and a story set in a unique environment that no other film I have seen has tackled. I would change the ending to show more and tell less, as it came off a lazy storytelling. For all of these reasons, I give it a solid 8 out of 10.
