Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
The story centers around "The Hunter" (Martin Copping) a man who has survived the zombie outbreak. The outbreak was caused by use of a new and popular recreational drug of unknown origin. The Hunter eventually ends up with a small group of survivors which include Father Jesus (Danny Trejo) and two women who vie for the attention of the new guy. Their goal is to fly to the proverbial safe island off the coast of California. The dialogue seemed fairly decent except for some unnecessary first person narration, which appears to have become too much of the norm since the success of "Zombieland."Part of the film is shot as a grainy grindhouse, which worked well, but its use was haphazard and ended quickly. The music was grindhouse metal and the blood splatters on the camera lens. Fast Lane Debbie(Jade Regier) who is a better pole dancer than nurse, teases us with her overt sexuality. There was a WTF CG creature, apparently a new unquestionable plot must since a "Residence Evil" sequel did it.The film had some good scenes and oozed with potential. If you are going to do a grindhouse film, you must go all the way to appeal to a grindhouse audience. This is a watered down film. Okay as a rental.Parental Guide: No f-bombs that I recall. No nudity. Sex scene inspired by Natile Portman (keeps bra on)...seriously? In a Trejo grindhouse?
This movie is a very failed attempt of some sort of Resident Evil kind of genre. Even from the trailer we are shown who is about to die and who is going to make this film an embarrassment to the world.I have to write at least 10 rows for this comment and that is too much for this movie, yes it does not help the movie industry and I have no idea who makes this atrocities!? Every day a "wanna be" movie director comes out and puts a monkey in a wheelchair to write a failed script with zombies just because they can make a fast buck and that is a crime to the art of action horrors that keep zombies "alive" in our "brainz"! If you want to smoke something funny and laugh at something stupid this is the movie for you, but other than that you can dodge this fiasco like a train on fire!
Man, this movie was a wild-rid of a film! I love me a good zombie movie and this was a good one all-right. I was a little nervous to see this since it was from a first-time producer, but I think he did a great job! If you like Robert Rodriguez movies and the Resident Evil movies, then you will like this, since it is sort of a mix between the two types. If you don't like blood or adult material, then definitely sit this one out though. It is a "gore-fest" to say the least with lots of adult humor, horror and sex. If you are into all that or don't mind it, then go see it. It will definitely keep you attention and you and your friends will be talking about it long after.
Warning.contains one small spoiler.People are critiquing this movie too harshly. Based on the other reviews one would think this is the worst zombie movie ever...it's not and I loved it! This move is fun, fun, fun. You can't stop watching. Danny is great, and as far as the other critiques about the dialogue, acting or lead's narrative, remember Blade Runner? I won't go into the plot, but people that love this genre realize this is not a serious movie, it is meant to be laughed at....Yes, there is bad CGI, bad effects and it is low budget. (spoiler alert) It never explains the mutant zombies, but who cares? The whole point of a zombie movie is either to be scared to death or spoof it and I could not stop watching. The people that are over thinking this need to have their head examined, seriously they are off base. Land of the Dead it was not, but I enjoyed watching.
