Good start, but then it gets ruined
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Bearing only a tenuous connection to the original, "102 Dalmatians" is a cynical attempt to make money. Like many sequels, it's just a caricature. Glenn Close still puts on a neat performance as Cruella DeVil, making her like Meryl Streep's character in "The Devil Wears Prada", but that's it. Probably the most ridiculous scene is when Disney gives itself a plug: the dogs watch "Lady and the Tramp". The cast members who didn't return were lucky to have not returned. Completely bland. As for work since then, Kevin Lima directed "Enchanted" (starring Amy Adams as a princess sent to New York).
Glenn Close returns as that bitch Cruella Devile in 102 Dalmations. Let me just say that this movie was kind of disappointing. Not that the original was that good, but this movie is funny at times, stupid at times, and odd at times. This time, Cruelle has just gotten out of prison. Her parole officer Chloe(Alice Evans) isn't quite convinced that she is sane. She was put in jail because she tried to murder dogs. Chloe, who is the main character, is a dog lover. So Cruella once again tries to get those damn dogs. The problem that I had with the last one is that the animals fight back. They do also in this film. 102 Dalmations, like the last one, would've been crap without Glenn Close. I don't believe that these dogs would kick Glenn Close's ass. If you have seen the show damages, then you know what I am talking about. I give 102 Dalmations a pass because it's a silly sequel. But Glenn Close may make the movie for you. She did for me.102 Dalmations:**1/2 out of ****
unfortunately, this second live action film is a pale imitation of its predecessor.it's a lot slower, and the story feels contrived.it almost seems like filler to me.there are a few comic moments, though not as many as its predecessor.i think they should have left it at the first one,101 Dalmatians.Glenn Close returns as Cruella De Vil,and is good, but has much less to do this time around.plus, her two henchmen form th preventions film are not in this one,and they added some comic relief.Gerard Depardieu is in this one,in a completely ridiculous role, and he looks quite silly,to be polite.despite its problems its still watchable.my vote for 102 Dalmations is a 5/10
I wouldn't bring a child under 8 to see this. With puppies dangling off of buildings squirming through dangerous machines and listening to Cruella's scary laugh to name a few of the events there is entirely too much suspense for a small child. The live action gives a more ominous feel than the cartoon version and there are quite a few disquieting moments including some guy that seems to be a transvestite, a lot of tense moments that will worry and may frighten small kids.I don't know what the Disney folks were thinking but neither the story nor the acting were of their usual level. The puppies are cute But this movie is spotty at best.
