Pretty Good
Good story, Not enough for a whole film
A lot of fun.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Good Night, And Good Luck There is a lot of content to offer to the audience in a very short and smartly timed, which can be off putting as it doesn't allow the audience to breathe and let it all sink in. It is accurately infomercial and highly adaptive but if considered as a dramatic act, there isn't much installed art to explore in here. The adaptation is smart and has a gripping screenplay keeping the audience engaged throughout its 90 minutes offering the audience enough homework to work on it which is fortunately worth in here too. George Clooney; the screenwriter and director, has done an excellent work on creating the '50s corporate world and the characters that revolves around it. David Strathairn is convincing in here and is supported well too by an amazing cast like George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Daniels. It is short on technical aspects like sound department and art design, but scores majestically on its amazing cinematography and brilliant camera work; it is shot beautifully. Good Night And Good Luck is a provocative homage to the martyrs who lived in the battlefield despite of ever entering one or preparing for one for that matter.
This movie is beautifully shot with a superb cast and script - opening with a rather frank and accurate prediction as to what journalism, and news as entertainment has become. Where balanced arguments were set to one side to push political agendas and the fear journalists faced in losing not just their careers, but their lives if they voiced a dissenting or balanced argument. The McCarthy era, fear of being labelled a liberal, a lefty, was synonymous with communism where the slightest suggestion caused fear of reprisals and silenced the majority. This movie could be seen as a precursor or warning of the eventuality of Fox and Newscorps powers of persuasion and influence. and the Orwellian dystopian future that has already arrived. Kudos to journalistic integrity and the platforms that support them. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
In Good Night and Good Luck, George Clooney really gets to show us his versatility in the Seventh Art. He wears many hats here, serving as Director, Co-author and co-star of this gripping and chilling film. It is a thoroughly engrossing "Truth is stranger than fiction" story (my favorite cinema genre!) of the persecution of alleged communists by certain powerful elements within the government of the United States in the early 50s. GOOD NIGHT won two well deserved Oscars .Highlighting and reminding all of us that, "Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it" ...I certainly think this is the operative phrase today, considering the myriad of illegal, unconstitutional surveillance and intrusions, put in place during the recent BUSH presidency, monitoring the conversations of its citizens to "ensure our national safety!". Definitely a must see film for anyone and everyone who is interested in our modern history. 10*....ENJOY!/DISFRUTELA! Any comments, questions or observations, in English o en Español, are most welcome!
Terrible. I hated that it was in black and white, I hardly got a feel for the characters, and it simply seemed to portray the historical context in a way that I did not glean anything from it. For a similarly-themed movie, that of a T.V. personality going up against a political figure, check out "Frost/Nixon." While I wouldn't give that film a 10/10, it is definitely worth a viewing over this one, which I would take a pass on. (And now I am just filling up space for the minimum 10 length of text review: at least there was a familiar face or two in the film, based on the actors listed on the DVD case; I didn't even finish this movie it was that uninteresting to me; and David Strathairn looks a little like Robert Deniro on the cover.)
