It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
The best thing about this movie is the on location European filming - Prague, Venice etc. with some opera thrown in. The story is another matter. The basic premise should work - a Roman Holiday kind of romance involving a first daughter and s secret service agent. BUT the dialog is for the most part terrible and many situations are unfunny and some of the situations are painful. One of the worst parts is how she throws herself at him and gets angry when she is rebuffed. Her character is quite unlikeable. The actors are hit and miss. Anabella Sciorra and Jeremy Piven look a little ill at ease as secret service agents. As does Mark Harmon as a disheveled looking president. Mandy Moore has a really annoying role to play. Matthew Goode as her love interest is a bit unsuited to her. He looks too mature for such a spoiled brat.Watch this for the scenery and locations but the screenplay is dreadful.
"Chasing Liberty" from 2004 is a film for young people, much younger than I am, certainly, but I rented it because I am a huge fan of Matthew Goode. The film stars Mandy Moore, Mark Harmon, Jeremy Piven, Annabelle Scioorra, and Caroline Goodall. The President's teenage daughter (Mandy Moore) is sick and tired of never being alone and being unable to date anyone who doesn't become intimated by practically being strip-searched when he picks her up and surrounded by secret service. When the First Family goes to Prague, she gives the secret service the slip and takes off on a motorcycle with a handsome young man (Matthew Goode). Little does she know, he's one of the President's people. Cute film, with nice performances. But the star of the film is all the European scenery in Prague, Berlin, and Venice. It's just beautiful. All the music is great, including the opera. I enjoyed it a lot.

Cinematography: Ashley Rowe Music: Christian Hanson Distribution: Warner Bros. Pictures Genre: Romantic comedyFilm review: The story is about Anna "Liberty" Foster who is the 18-year old daughter of the American president. This means she has no freedom, something she dislikes more than anything else. One night she wants to go with a friend of her to a concert in Prague and she has an agreement with her dad: this time only two security guards. When she discovers that he has broken his promise, she runs away with a nice boy. She continues her plan to go to The Love Parade in Berlin and the guy joins her. Finely she's free and she can do whatever she wants without being controlled by the guards. During their trip they fall in love. But how long is this fairytale going to survive? I was looking for a film that could give me a break and I must say this romantic comedy was perfect for this! A while ago, a friend told me she saw the film and she found him very good. So one evening, when I discovered that the film was broadcast on TV, I had to see him. I also knew that Mandy Moore was one of the actresses. That's one of the main reasons I thought the film would be good. Why? Because I saw another film with her in the leading role (A walk to remember) and it's one of my favorite films. Besides, all the other actors and actresses played their role well. You clearly see that Ben is falling in love with her despite her complaining about her overprotective father and the security guards. Actually everything about the film was very good! For example the costumes of Liberty. In the White House she is dressed appropriately, but when she discovers the world her clothes changes. In fact, her whole look changes: she colors her hair so nobody will recognize her and she is dressed like all other normal teenagers. The lightening was good as well as the camera work. There were a couple of nice close-ups when it gets romantic. A nice bonus were the postcards we saw every time she went to another city. Another thing I like is the title. You can interpret it in two different ways. First you can say that they are chasing after Anna "Liberty" Foster and second you can also say that she is chasing liberty/freedom. So I really enjoyed the film and recommend the girls to see him sometime.
I saw this twice before on TV and online and surprisingly I actually liked this one better than First Daughter and yes I know that both films were made in the same year and had the same story but one of them had a nice ending and the other one had a horrible ending, and this was the one with the good ending.OK so what is it about. 18 yr old Anna played by ex pop princess turned movie star Mandy Moore who everybody knows was in Tangled as the voice of Rapunzel is the daughter of the US President played by Mark Harmon who was in Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis who hates letting go of his rebellious daughter who wants a normal life. So she hits to Prague sporting a darker hair do than her blonde hair which she had in the beginning of the movie with her mate to see a concert. There she meets a dashing Englishman played by Matthew Goode from Leap Year and she decides to go off on an adventure with him by chance as her bodyguards found her and she ditches the scene with this charming young man.But what Anna doesn't know about him is that his really working for the Secret Service Agency and his undercover as a photographer so that he can protect Anna from danger. The romance between Moore and Goode is great, the story is very predictable, the music is OK I guess and the film itself was WAY better than First Daughter which I said before. If you like Romantic Comedies or just a fan of Mandy Moore like me then check it out and see it for yourself. Also keep an eye out for a certain British guy that steals Moore's wallet in the movie if your from the UK and heard of a soap drama called Coronation Street he was in that programme as Spider and also keep an eye out for Jeremy Piven who was in that movie that I reviewed a few days ago called So Undercover,he plays a Special Services Agent in the film.7/10
