Just perfect...
How sad is this?
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
There's a reason why I don't like American comedies: they're American! They're cheesy and predictable. The chemistry between Dempsey and Monaghan made it worth the watch. As the film progressed, though, it got more and more unreasonable and rather silly. The filmmakers expected the audience to prefer Tom (Dempsey) and Hannah (Monaghan) to get together, but why should I? Why would I prefer her to marry casanova Tom? He's been her best friend for 10 years with no interest whatsoever of getting involved with her. Why should I root for him now? Especially now that she's found the perfect man in Colin (McKidd). He has the looks, the charm, the title, the money and the donkey kong dick - why shouldn't I prefer him over Tom. No reason is given why he is not good enough for her. He is faithful, loving and caring. The ending was so utterly stupid and predictably American. Tom's final speech was...well, yawn! You honestly expect me to fall for this ending???
I remember having watched this movie when it was released... I just didn't remember that I hated it till today when I re-watched it. There was nothing redeemable in this film whatsoever. Storyline - predictable at best, cast-forced chemistry if even, has the film-maker ever been to Scotland? I mean seriously? I read one review or message board thread about the movie being 'offensive to Scotland' and to that I can only say; in order for you to offend me I have to first care what you think....... there was no way this movie was taken seriously as a representation of Scotland and in that way cannot be offensive-let it be a comedy of stupidity on the part of the creators and we'll all laugh AT them not WITH them. And Patrick Dempsey is excellent at playing the a$$hole, he nails it- nothing is ever his fault,it's all about him, make sure he gets what he wants all the time-he plays it so well it's hard to ever look at him without feeling disgusted, like he must be like that in real life and be so self-absorbed he doesn't even realize what an dick he is....... I refuse to believe that is true OMG..... I just finished watching this and feel like I'm about to barf. So incredibly stupid and if I wasn't convalescing I would never have bothered...HATE, yes, I'm using the word HATE about this movie...... HATE very strongly......
I have not watched many romantic comedies and am not a huge fan of them, however I quite enjoyed the film and have given it an 8 out of 10.The plot line is quite enjoyable especially in line with the characters portrayed. The chemistry between the two lead parts (Tom - Patrick Dempsey and Hannah - Michelle Monaghan) is near perfect in the film giving an enticing feel to the story. Even if you are not a fan of this genre as am I, I would still recommend this film due to many funny scenes and moments, lots of enjoyable and funny dialogue between Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan, plus the Character Tom is a confident, enthused womaniser who is always quick witted and seems to be living the lads dream which is always enjoyable to see. Also Tom's father Thomas Sr played by Sydney Pollack is a hilarious addition to the film being an old rich man who has 5 divorces under his belt. The romance in the film is not overpowering but still suitable for the types who seek that in a movie. As the film was set in a united states city and in the Scottish highlands you get quite a contrast of scenery and people which adds an otherwise unattainable aspect to the film of enjoyability. Overall the film was definitely worth a watch and suitable for non romantic comedy lovers - it's a nice chill out film. Oh and I forget to mention that Michelle Monaghan is pretty damn hot!!!
I don't think it deserves a low(or middle) rating of 5.5. It's the first movie for a long time which I haven't checked it's rating before watching. It has a semi-predictable ending. I will not talk about technical stuff, because I didn't pay attention to those stuff. But I can say that this movie is amazing. Maybe it's not the best compared to other romance based movies, but it's amazing itself and enjoyable. A minus was that the movie didn't have a "really memorable quote". Storyline is classic but I can say that something makes it enjoyable and fluently time passing. Although it has some unsatisfying content. For example, Colin seemed really cool at first. But something makes him seem stupid after then. And the movie never shows the ending of the fight when Colin hits Tom. It just passes forward to the wedding. Other than those, storyline is pretty awesome.
