The Worst Film Ever
Good concept, poorly executed.
For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Hard to believe that two people driving around Italy and eating great food would be so irritating. There is more half-assed impersonations of Al Pacino and Robert DiNero than comment on the food, the scenery, or five star lodgings. Mute the sound, fast forward as needed, and you can knock this one off in less than ten minutes. You'll be glad you did.
I suppose this movie isn't for me, as I already find Rob Brydon quite obnoxious during the first ten minutes of this movie. I have given this film a 3 out of 10 due to the filming locations (Italy). People tend to overrate a lot of the British movies, and unfortunately this is one of them. I don't particularly appreciate this so called witty banters between these two characters/actors/comedians, and they might have thought they had mocked Michael Cain successfully by doing impressions of him. Impersonating another person isn't only about trying to mimic that person's accent and voice. Their impressions of Robert De Niro were a failure while they were dining with two other British women at a restaurant in Rome. It was interesting to see what kind of food they were eating. So if you are into British humor and want to watch a movie in which these two are either eating or driving around Italy, this is for you.
One of the few movies we have ever stopped 20 minutes in to.We just wanted these two to shut up for a few seconds but they incessantly motormouth to no end.I suppose if you are British, and love to hear your accent, never ever stop speaking, you would like this movie. I had a British girlfriend once she at least actually shut up once in a while which made the accent kind of cool. These two guys make the British accent literally painful because you NEVER get a break. And the conversations they have are not in the least interesting.Comedy is my favorite genre, but this movie was more like an annoying dinner guest that just will not shut up for a minute. I was hoping that the movie, being about traveling and eating food at different places in Italy; they would have talked about the food a bit. But NO it was ALL these two ALL the time at least for the 20 minutes we suffered through this assault on the brain.I hate to write bad reviews, but this is fair warning to those who just watch movies for simple entertainment. This movie is for certain people, and I'm not sure who they are, and I probably would not want to spend an evening at dinner with them.
As I write this review I am scrambling to think of a more boring, painfully uninteresting and dull movie, and I can't. Of course I have come across Steve Coogan before. The other character with his constant boring mimicking, I am not familiar with (perhaps in another setting he maybe bring a slight chuckle.. but here he is just downright irritating). And Steve, who breaks the news at their first meal that that he is off the drink, yet embarks on a culinary trip to Italy. the home of finest wines and food.!!. Not even funny. and this puts the finishing touches on "dry and boring". But as the movie was set in Italy I thought it might be interesting and at least we would get to see some nice scenery. Well the truth is after about half an hour I couldn't take anymore and walked away. I didn't tick the box for spoiler alert, because I am not going to spoil this movie, simply because it is not possible. It was spoiled already the day it was made. I would rather watch paint dry. How how this has got a 6.7 rating on IMDb is racking my brains and wrecking my head. Because I do put a lot of faith in IMDb ratings I am completely at a loss here and extremely disappointed. Anything above 3 is over rating it..
