Riot at the Rite
In the spring of 1913, Parisian businessman Gabriel Astruc opens a new theater on the Champs Elysées. The first performance is the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring', danced by the Ballet Russes. The rehearsal process is extremely fraught: the orchestra dislike Stravinsky's harsh, atonal music; the dancers dislike the 'ugly' choreography of Vaslav Nijinsky. The volatile, bisexual Nijinsky is in a strained relationship with the much older Sergei Diaghilev, the Ballet Russes' charismatic but manipulative impresario. Public expectation is extremely high after Nijinsky's success in 'L'apres-midi d'un faune'. Finally, 'The Rite of Spring' premieres to a gossip-loving, febrile, fashion-conscious Parisian audience sharply divided as to its merits.

Fallen Art presents the story of General A, a self-proclaimed artist. His art, however, consists of a deranged method of stop motion photography, where the individual frames of the movie are created by photographs made by Dr. Johann Friedrich, depicting the bodies of dead soldiers, pushed down by Sergeant Al from a giant springboard onto a slab of concrete.

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

If you are watching this because you like the plot and acting of the first one then skip it. This time you need to be watching it for the dancing and nothing else. If you want a great plot and some amazing acting don't bother.I actually enjoyed this movie because I wasn't expecting much. All I wanted to see was dancing and it was pretty good. I've been dancing since I was 2 and appreciate any form. You will see Twitch in the movie as a main character (He's not half bad) but will admire his movement. Twitch is from 'So You Think You Can Dance' and so much more…just an FYI.Overall if you appreciate dancing watch this film. Besides the acting you will be entertained. It's like watching the preceding Step Ups and expecting anything else but good dancing.

Like most who purchased this movie or watched it...it was due to me being a huge fan of the first Stomp The Yard. To say I was let down is somewhat of an understatement. First of all the second movie starts off the same as the first...dance competition followed by needless violence. That's where the similarities end. First of all…Collins Pennie (Chance in the movie) is not as talented of a dancer as Columbus Short (DJ in the first movie). That much is evident from the opening dance scene. My opinion of him is pretty much justified throughout the entire movie. Then there is the time-line problem. Stomp The Yard was released in 2007 and Stomp The Yard 2 was released in 2010. Columbus Short's character DJ should still be enrolled in Truth as a returning Senior. If he graduated early which is possible, it's hard to believe that the Thetas have endured another losing streak to the Mu Gammas which is clearly the case, as direction of this movie would have you believe. This could have easily been fixed had the film makers offered up more money for Columbus to actually star in this movie instead of making brief cameos. Imagine this…Chance comes to Truth needing direction and DJ mentors him having experienced similar issues during his initial semester at college. Also imagine DJ instructing Chance that he has to be open to improving himself…in life as well as Stepping. Imagine then, the dance finale of seeing Chance and DJ stepping on the same stage. Imagine DJ turning Theta Nu Theta over to Chance as he prepares for graduation. Also it would have been nice to see Megan Good make a cameo as DJ's fiancée. Now a plot including these bits and pieces would have made for a much better movie. That's just my opinion though. Before I forget…did I mention that both fraternities had better steppers in 2007 than 2010, laugh out loud.

Stomp the Yard 2: HomecomingAll ethnicities enjoy dance in their own way. Latin Americans like to tango, Indians like to Bhangra, while Caucasians like to watch dance themed television shows. As for African Americans, according to this sequel, they like to dance in-between their university classes. When new Theta Nus pledge Chance (Collins Pennie) is pegged as the top stepper in his fraternity's crew, the pressure is on him to win the upcoming national step-off competition.Making matters worse is the fact that his father (Keith David) and the leader of a rival dance crew (Twitch) are both hoping that Chance chokes.A left footed attempt at establishing a dance franchise, Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming lacks the script, the stars, and the choreography needed to exceed the original Stomp the Yard.Besides, due to the increase in campus violence, it's hard to tell if students in the quad are dancing or dodging bullets. Let's start with the choreography. Terrible, the main character seems to put so much effort into facial expressions and hand gestures that he forgot that he was suppose to be dancing/stepping. The entire cast had a hard time keeping up with the original cast, which made me continue to want to turn off the movie.Seeing how I wanted to give the film a chance, it just didn't work. Sometimes, films should just say with the original and leave sequels for better script writing.I guess adding a cameo in the film was suppose to make the film better, but their 5 minute appearance did not help anything. If you want to pass an hour ½ give it a go, but don't expect anything as good as the first.
