As Good As It Gets
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Bewitched was a feel-good TV series but in this remake they try to make it about some stupid story of a studio making a Bewitched movie. Oh so disappointed thought it was going to be great but 3 thumbs down.
I finally got this movie on DVD because,, well it was for sale. I like Will Ferrel and Nora Ephron, so i figured I'd give it a shot. This had a lot of potential, but wow,, a witch, who is accidentally cast as a witch in a TV show? Yikes! There was a great cast involved and could have been a real hoot but the premise of the whole movie is just off the mark. Why didn't they just do a movie based on the original idea? A witch who marries a mortal and he has to deal with all her wacky relatives. Could have been hilarious. Oh well, it is what it is. I watched it once and it shall now be relegated to the pile. The individual performances were okay though, just the story really really does not work. Thanks for reading!
Bewitched (2005): Dir: Nora Ephron / Cast: Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Michael Caine, Shirley MacLaine, Jason Schwartzman: Based on the sitcom of the same name, it regards bemusement and surprise in our reaction or actions with others. Will Ferrell plays a failed movie star who agrees to update Bewitched but only in the condition that an unknown actor portray Samantha the witch. He discovers Nicole Kidman in a book store after seeing her wiggle her nose just as the character did. What he doesn't realize is that his discovery is in fact a real witch. Director Nora Ephron succeeds in creating a film that moves beyond the typical remake by creating a world view in which the program exists. She dealt with similar story themes when she made Michael. The production is bright but its witchcraft theories may offend certain viewers. Ferrell makes a great foil as an actor totally full of himself but Kidman steals the film with the innocence of Samantha who desires to be normal. Michael Caine is excellent as Samantha's father who constantly informs his daughter that her powers is her normality. Shirley MacLaine is superb as a fellow actor / witch who will be matched by film's end. Jason Schwartzman plays a scheming agent whom is overheard by Kidman regarding a filming process. Unusual approach to bringing Bewitched to the silver screen but the result is bewildering entertainment. Score: 8 / 10
Well, here I am in shear heaven. My wife has just bought me a new 60s radiogram, and all is well. So,I run through some channels while I sip my coffee, and come across Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman. As we already know,Nicole plays the part of Samantha, and she does it good too.she looks incredibly like Elizabeth Montgomery who played Samantha in the great TV show. Those old codgers out there like me that grew up in the 1960s will remember Miss Montgomery with great affection, and if any fellow out there says he did not have crush on her is a pants on fire fibber. Will Ferrell played a good part as the near washed up actor and the idea of using bewitched as a story for a movie was a stroke of genius.Good production, great actors and the sounds of Mr Sinatra and Satchmo Armstrong just made it for me.It brought back very happy memories of those years in the 60s,and I got to see clips of Miss Montgomery too.Oh,yes, heaven is mine. So,OK,critics disliked it,but what do they know.I don't like critics. This is a truly good film,so grab your favorite popcorn, sit down snuggly with the rest of the family and watch one of the best movies made for family viewing in many years
