I know...I know. Compared to the original, this one is far less dark, the music isn't as good, and it has a less epic scope but.... I can't help it. I like this movie. If you couldn't guess from the title, this is definitely one of my guilty pleasure movies. I can't defend it from a technical aspect, but I actually really do enjoy this movie. The main reason I suppose is I got really mad in the first movie seeing as how the moral was 'look at the beauty inside' and then Esmeralda marries the cute guy. (Shrug) i don't know, that just always really bothered me. I actually did want Quasimodo to get a romantic interest, and I do actually like Madelin's character as well as Jennifer Love Hewitt voicing her. The villain was cheesy, the stakes weren't as high, but, I liked the romantic character development. I wasn't too huge of a fan of the child character Zephyr, but, then again I am sure not too many people were. The animation is nothing to write home about and like I said everything technical about it is not very good. But...it still left me with a happy feeling and I enjoyed it and have watched it multiple times. I can understand people who don't like it solely based on how different the tone is from the first, but you gotta give em credit, they got back pretty much all the voice actors. That's gotta count for something. Still though, I know a lot of people didn't..but I really liked it. Chalk it up to a guilty pleasure.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is a totally cheep looking, and poorly made film that's too short too give us any character development, and the voice work is terrible. The animation is b movie grade, and we have a very weak villain. The villain is unlike Frollo from the original-horrible. He's laughable. He's not even scary he's like a clown, and just doesn't make for a dark villain. The voice work is unprofessional from the new cast members. This is a good example of how not to do a sequel, while Jennifer Love Hewitt puts a cheerful energetic voice into her character it's overall mediocre compared to Demi Moore's perfect voice. This is a slow kiddie flick made for 2 year olds by 3 year olds. D-

It was a critically acclaimed film released in June of '96. The animation was splendid, the music was splendid, even the voice cast (Tom Hulce, Demi Moore, Kevin Kline and Jason Alexander) was splendid. And after I watched that one, I asked myself, is this as good as traditional animation gets? Well, at least I thought that about the FIRST Hunchback. This one has to be the worst excuse of family entertainment. All this "movie" really is, is the first movie without even a fraction of a FRACTION of a good note of music, visual dazzle, wit or charm. The only good thing they did about this movie was bring back the old voices, who I bet were only there for the money, as well as the two added voice actors, Haley Joel Osment and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The animation looked like something out of Saturday Morning cartoons, the songs were gratingly loud and was sorely lacking the dark tone of the original film. Even Gigli is better than this. Seriously.

Yeah it's as bad as it sounds. In fact it's worse. I think Walt is probably turning in his grave every time one of these things are made. This thing is just a pile of trash plain and simple. Everything that was great in the original got gang raped by the greedy sh*ts at Disney who make these sequels. The beautiful animation has been replaced by animation that looks like it is from the 80's. The characters now lack personality also. Then there is the unforgivable fact that they sugarcoat the hell out of this movie. No more religious taboos, sexual cravings, death, violence, or darkness. Now everything is about that thing love. Well Disney I'm here to say what works in most of your movies doesn't work in others. So you can take your love and shove where the sun don't shine. Colors used in this movie never get very dark. Its all bright, and happy colors which it shouldn't be. Then there is the absolute joke of villain. I mean really are we supposed to take this self-obsessed pansy as a replacement for Frollo. Let's see on one side we have stealing a bell, and on the other we have killing hundreds of people. Yeah I think we all know which is more badass. There is also no form of tension in this movie. Let's count what can go wrong in the events of both these movies.1. Esmerlda could die Quasimodo could die Hundreds of people could dieParis could be burnt to the ground Frollo could continue to exterminate Gypsys2. A bell could be stolen A heart could be brokenSee the difference. Also the voice actors really didn't push great performances here. They don't all really bring charisma and charm to these characters this time around. The animation I could go on for days about. How do you go from a film that still looks great by today's standards to something that doesn't even manage to surpass "The Little Mermaid" in animation despite being made over a decade later. I mean wow did they mess up with the animation. Overall this movie insults anybody who enjoyed the original. I hate this movie.0 stars out of 4
