The Worst Film Ever
Pretty Good
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
As a big fan of animation, I often subject myself to stuff like this to see if perhaps the critics are too harsh. After all, this is a kids movie right? Don't be like me, you will regret it....This movie is tiresome and confusing at the best of times, even though the storyline is simple as hell. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but just trust me! The main protagonists, which surpass the whole African population in number (seriously, there are so many!) are all bland and cliche. Around half of them live in Africa and are trying to survive through a drought with little water, eventually deciding to set off and find some, before discovering it is being stored in a dam to supply a nearby holiday resort. I believe the main character is the creepy James corden meerkat with the stringy voice. As if they couldn't make that actors voice worse than it already is anyway? He is the first to set off to find the water, eventually meeting up with some animals who arrived in Africa in a bath from other countries (no, you didn't read that wrong). Not only are there so many characters, but most of them have no purpose to the overall storyline! The tortoises give a speech about human destruction before deciding to immediately dying, which is sad as they were the most interesting characters. Most animals are stereotypes, such as an Aussie kangaroo and Tasmanian devil. I don't mind stereotypes if they are tasteful, but these aren't great portrayals. The ending is as you would imagine, boring and predictable... until the last few mins when they decide to go to New York in a whale? Overall the film is attempting to give an environmental message, but just goes about it the wrong way! If your looking for a quality animated movie then I suggest avoiding this one, even The Wild (2006) is a better choice which really says something! I would have given it a 1 is it wasn't for the decent enough animation!
Despite trying with some cheap jokes, the overall tone of this movie is rather dark, but what really bothers me is the inconsistency of the story and the overabundance of factual errors and improbabilities, in this movie we have African buffaloes with fur, upper incisors and (in the German dub) a Spanish accent, saltwater fish in a large open-top tank in either Botswana, Namibia or Angola (evaporation apparently being a non-issue for these tanks), animals from all over the globe who arrive in these landlocked regions after leaving a bathtub they used to cross the oceans, a biplane with an ATGM launcher, etc.. The worst of all these factual errors, IMHO, are the vegetarian lion - the rest of the carnivorous protagonists don't seem to eat anything either - and the dam closing in all water (instead of letting through roughly the same amount as before since otherwise it would simply spill over), because these are obvious plot devices to indoctrinate children with the political messages of this movie (meat is bad, mankind is evil).
I am a teenager and i saw this movie, it was on Netflix and i thought id watch it because i love animated kids movies, i sincerely regret watching it. the plot, what plot? the movie was all over the place, it was like the animators just threw in a bunch of characters and just called it a movie, this movie literally just had a bunch of random characters come in, there were two random turtles, a kangaroo, a koala, a Tasmanian Devil, a random polar bear, oh don't even get me started on the polar bear, and a chicken, along with a bunch of safari animals. there was a damn polar bear in the safari, how?!? there were no back stories, no character or plot back stories, like how did the turtles, kangaroo, taz devil, polar bear and a chicken, get a damn floating bathtub and end up all together, and float onto the banks of the safari? i mean come on people, oh and i wasn't paying attention at the end but why were all the animals in new York or whatever city they went to? and also the voice synchronization was horrible, do not watch this movie!
I registered on this site, after using it for 10+ years, simply to warn people away from this overt and factless piece of propaganda. It is being used to propagandize our children in the manner that the ECO community see fit. Within the first five (5) minutes, there are direct references to global warming, automotive air pollution and oil spills. All are characterized as being the reasons for the lack of water in a valley because a dam had been built (which is incorrect) and the children are being taught to embrace the agenda of the Socialist/Wealth Redistribution crowd because of the references aforementioned. It seems that humans and all their machines are bad for the planet and all animals would be better off without us. This is a mantra heard, relentlessly, by the likes of PETA, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, et al. If a filmmaker wishes to make a film disparaging the so called ills that humans have wreaked on the planet, let them entitle it a documentary, or more correctly a mockumentary. However, do not try to indoctrinate our children, for this is all that this film is: indoctrination propaganda. If you want to SELL your film to children, seek to sell it to those with stupid, uncaring parents. Mine would never see such brainwashing crap!
