Great Film overall
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
(Originally reviewed: 22/02/2017) Jim Carrey's 2nd worst film after the sadistic, repugnant Kick-ass 2; I usually enjoy his work; but this film is plain and simple not funny. I never laughed, nor did I smile, the whole picture was utterly painful to sit through. The only thing it had going for it was its production design which looked decent; it's a pity everything that talked and contributed to the screenplay for the film was either embarrassingly awful or just plain awful. There's no structure to the story; if you could call it a story, and there's no chemistry between anyone and the acting sucks; even Carrey who is desperately over the top; most likely trying to make up for the picture's bad writing; but even he wasn't funny here. Many of the gags looked like they were designed for teenage boys; the writer's think spitting gags, snot covered faces and a man eating bat droppings is funny; well here's some truth; there just not; there unfunny, gross and immature; at one point I wrote down I hate this film on a piece of paper and I've never done that before; that's how aggravating it was to endure. Other noticeably crap jokes include "Say hello to my stinky friend" where he sprays someone with a skunk, which is pathetic, and a terrible gag where he comes out of a rhino's ass; which is an insult to the intelligence of people who have a good taste in comedy. One other gag involved a fight with an alligator; now I actually felt sorry for the alligator; because even he looked depressed with Carrey's embarrassing performance. The film is complete trash; a film that requires constant unnecessary slapstick, unpleasant gags, and atrociously bad dialogue to exist; Jack Bernstein (writer) and director Steven Oedekerk who also helped write the film should be ashamed of what they have done, because this is a contender for worst comedy sequel of all time. Overall Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is juvenile, immature, pathetic, and pure comedic sewage. 0.5/5
I love the original movie. But this was sheer torture to watch to the end. That hour and half of running time, felt like 3 hours.I don't know how they could screw this up so bad. It wasn't funny at all. Just dumb. Jim Carrey wasn't funny, just as annoying as Adam Sandler in any Adam Sandler movie. It's like he either tried too hard or didn't try at all, because he knew this movie would suck and he was probably just there for a paycheck. And don't even get me started on the racism towards African tribes.Ace Ventura, unlike in the original, was not a likable character. here. He was just an a-hole. Maybe it was the whole dumb idea of moving the sequel to Africa. In the original, that took place in Miami, Florida, everyone was acting seriously, while Jim Carrey was the only one acting retarded. And he had good actors to act against. And that made him funny. Kind of like Joey vs everyone else in "Friends". This felt like the spin off series: "Joey", that wasn't funny, because all of Joeys "Friends" were gone. The only ones that will find this crap funny, are kids from the age of 5 to 10. Any normal teenager or adult will hate this movie.
After Pet Detective there was yet ANOTHER Jim Carrey installment of Ace Ventura and boy was this even more hilarious. Here Jim Carrey's charcther is send to Africa alongside a British explorer to find the missing bat.The opening scenes of Ace Ventura sees him climbing a mountain and meeting Hindu men and his raccoon falls to his death as the harness gets loose.Of course there is more slapstick humor throughout including a scene where Ace is inside a robotic rhino and he has to take off his clothes as the machine got broken down and the only way to get out of the robotic rhino was the get out of his backside, leaving the visitors of the outback of Africa to assume that the so called Rhino was having a baby. That was hilarious. Of course Ace Ventura has to solve the mystery as to where the bat is and who is the culprit again. Overall its not as funny as the first one and Jim Carrey is still Jim Carrey with his whacky over the top image that he had in the 1990s before he got serious with his films. But still if you are a fan of the first film and a fan of Jim Carrey, this isn't a bad film to see on TV or if you get it on DVD. Check it out and see what you think.5.5/10Out of 5 stars 2 and a half out of 5.
Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls (1995) is a funny movie but it is not as funny (or is it as good) as the first movie, the original and classic wacky comedy movie Ace Venture - Pet Detective. The first movie of course was the huge break out role for Jim Carrey that made him a bankable grade A star in Hollywood. The second movie is still funny with some really good scenes (I am thinking of the great scene where Jim Carrey comes out of the special robotic rhino that he was hiding in to watch the bad guys without being seen) but it never is as funny or as consistent as the first/original Ace Ventura.Definitely worth seeing but don't expect the same laughs from the first movie.
