Purely Joyful Movie!
Fresh and Exciting
Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
A great film on a tight budget exceeding all expectations. Milla does indulge such films.I suffer a mild form of facial displeasure so I am biased in my relationship to the film. I struggle to recognise my own family, forget about friends or co-workers. It is all a bluff. It is always about unique features. Recognise that which is unique. We lie in order to find truth. Not a flourishing existence. No flowers blooming from us. The film is worth watching. Full of plot twists and whodunnit? Jx
Crossing a bridge while walking home late one night, Anna Marchant (Milla Jovovich) interrupts serial killer Tearjerk Jack (David Atrakchi) while he is weeping over the body of his latest victim. Fighting off the psycho, Anna falls over the edge of the bridge, hitting her head on the way down, and is rescued from the river by a friendly hobo. When she awakes in hospital, she discovers that she is suffering from prosopagnosia, a condition that leaves her unable to recognise faces; this not only causes problems between Anna and her boyfriend Bryce (Michael Shanks), but makes it impossible for her to identify the killer, even when he is stalking her.Scrutinise the plot for Faces in the Crowd too closely and there are going to be questions that will spoil the experience; let it all wash over you and you'll have a much better time. Jovovich puts in a credible performance as the troubled Anna and director Julien Magnat handles the material admirably given the flakiness of the plot. What works best is the clever use of different actors for the same character, and several scenes in which the occupants of a room all look remarkably similar; they're ingenious techniques that prove effectively unsettling. Its easy to see why some might find the premise a little silly—the mere idea of prosopagnosia is difficult idea to wrap one's head around—but to be fair, Face in the Crowd is no more unbelievable than many a giallo, and I'm generally very forgiving towards them when it comes to logic. 6.5/10, rounded up to 7 for IMDb.
This was a Very Difficult Premise and could not be Fully Realised by the Script and Direction. The Central Theme of Face Blindness is Intriguing but Visually comes off as Muddled and Confusing. The Character's Changing Faces from Milla Jovovich's Perspective are so Fleeting as to leave the Audience more Confused than the Protagonist. This does not Bode Well for a Complex Thriller as the Viewer is in a Constant State of Flux trying to Figure Out who is who and what is what and Things get Lost Trying to Keep it all Straight. To be Kind it was a Killer of an Attempt but it just didn't Work. That Burden Weighed Down the Serial Killer Elements and the Tension was more Frustrating than Thrilling. It's not a Bad Movie Overall and if You can Stay with it and Manage to not be Thrown by all the Faces Fading in and out and can Keep it Together, it Might be a Rewarding and Interesting New Take on the Genre. The Handicapped Victim has been done before but is by No Means Overdone and this Effort was a Good Try but the Execution is just too Thin and the Complexities Overwhelm the Enjoyment. Worth a Watch but the Entertainment Quota will Require Effort.
OK, so by now your interest should have piqued having read the outlining premise of the movie; Jokovich regains consciousness after being attacked by "tear jerk jack" (!) albeit having lost the ability to read people's faces..where do I begin? Well Jokovich, bless her, does her best to invest in the film, but ultimately runs around making squeaky noises, freaking out over the slightest incident which makes her look like a neurotic housewife having just discovered a mouse. I think the majority of the time she's trying to make up for the hopeless storyline and flat stereotypical characters around her however I have had ironing sessions which are more thrilling than this film. Julian McMahon, once hot and credible, is starting to lose his hair, obviously dyes it and has a substantial middle aged paunch creeping up.. His "I appear to be a gruff, misunderstood, bombastic cop but I'm actually a good guy frustrated at my inability to catch tear jerk jack the serial killer" routine comes across as naff as he dad runs around for most of the film vowing not to let Jokovich "out of his sight" an then proceeds to let her out of his sight so the killer can take advantage of her disability and attempt to rape, murder and cry over her lifeless body. Honestly, that's his Modus operandi; he crys and his killings are linked through DNA profiling the tears found on the bodies - genius! Watch out for marianne faithful (once famous for going out with mick jagger) who has had her lips inflated so much it is hard to understand her; this only enhances (pardon the pun) the ridiculousness of his film. Now excuse me whilst my three year old niece and I, using only chunky crayons and sheets of blank paper, set about creating the next movie for mila to "produce"
