Great Film overall
Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Review: Although this is definitely made for the kids, its one of those movies were adults can watch it as well because there are some funny jokes and the storyline isn't completely ridiculous. There is a wide variation of characters which keep the movie interesting and the animation was quite good. Its basically lighthearted fun for the whole family which is easy to follow from beginning to end. Personally, I wasn't expecting that much from the film so it was good to see that the director added a little adult humour, like the Simon Cowell reference and the talking robot who was supposed to be a rip off from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. At the end of the day, it wasn't that great, but it harmless fun if you just want to watch something that will keep the kids quiet. Average!Round-Up: Surprisingly, there were some big names supplying there voices for this movie which was why I was expecting it to be bigger than it was. Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker, Brendan Fraser and Ricky Gervais are just some of the famous names on the cast list, but the movie didn't really blow up at the box office. Maybe that's because there isn't that much depth to the film and it seemed like the studio just wanted to release it while the kids were on holiday. Anyway, the movie made quite a profit so I'm sure that were going to see these characters in a sequel. As far as animated space movies go, I have seen worse but this isn't that memorable. Budget: $40million Worldwide Gross: $75millionI recommend this movie to people who are into there animated, intergalactic kiddie movies about a space technician going to save his heroic brother from earth were an evil man has kidnapped him. 4/10
Humanoid aliens living on the planet Baab are accustomed to turning on their news and seeing a pompous astronaut Scorch Supernova(Brendan Fraser)accepting his praise for his daring missions in space. One person not too over-excited with all the hoopla is Gary Supernova(Rob Corddry), Scorch's brother, who chose to be an engineer not an astronaut and is head of mission control. Gary is a bit jealous that his own son Kip(Jonathan Morgan Heit)may be showing most of his admiration to Uncle Scorch. Many explorers have been sent on missions to the "Dark Planet" Earth. When Chief Lena(Jessica Alba)receives an SOS message from earth, against Gary's advice, Scorch the arrogant superhero jumps the gun and heads to the "Dark Planet", from where no one returns.Very solid animation with nice sharp color, but lacking any real intelligence. After all, this is meant for a very young audience that probably does understand the mild rude humor. Other talented stars lend voices in support like: Paul Scheer, Sofia Vergara, George Lopez, William Shatner, Steve Zahn and Ricky Gervais. The youngsters will get more out of this than the grandparents they duped into bringing them.
This is my first movie review on IMDb so bear with me. I had my doubts at first about watching this movie considering it's not done by the main animation power houses ( Disney and Dream Works) but to my surprise it's right up there with the big boys. The animation is exceptional, the character designs are great, the storyline isn't half bad,the characters compliment each other well.In my opinion it's way better than the Croods or Rise of the guardians. All in all,It's a fun movie to watch. The only thing I didn't like was the voice casting of Brendan Fraser as Scorch Supernova. He just didn't do it for the character. But on the other hand Sarah Jessica Parker did a great job voicing Kira Supernova. As for first time feature film directer Carl Brunker he did a wonderful job directing this one.
The start of the movie is just another plot of typical alien films, but as you move on you see a difference. The heroes are aliens (for us!) and the humans are villains. I loved the concept but the film couldn't keep its zeal; the action was vague and too immature. It seems like the film makers wanted to target the youngest age group, but even though should have put the better part of their thinking into it. Films like toy story and ice age enjoy similar themes, but there is something in which they differ from Escape From Planet Earth- Quality of action! To summarize I would insist you better try other films of this kind, like monsters vs aliens
