It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

This one's a complete crack-up. However, the elementary school activities are pretty off. Collages without any direction/instruction, which are done in first grade in this movie, are pre-school crap. When I was in KINDERGARTEN, we made collages like in the movie but with verbal instruction on how they were to be done. It was supposed to get us to start using our listening skills to see how well followed instructions since we were past the brainlessness of pre-school. When I was in FIRST grade, we actually started LEARNING stuff, unlike in the movie which had all the kids conked out by the end of story time. There wasn't nap time because we were supposed to be growing our brains (and comprehending) and reporting to the teacher with our take/synopsis from a story like that. We started learning the PRESIDENTS and we learned NUMBERS. We worked through addition and subtraction worksheets. In second grade, we advanced to multiplication and division worksheets. In the movie, division isn't taught until third grade. Billy, in second grade, calls the little girl out in the spelling bee as soon as she says 'W' in 'couch' only to then struggle on that very letter himself even worse than she by guessing 'R' for crying out loud. If he's so sure that SHE screwed up, how would HE be CLUELESS?

As we grow old with every passing year, most of us look back on those carefree days of childhood and wish that freedom was ours to enjoy once again. Well, Billy Madison (Adam Sandler) gets to do exactly that!Basically, the premise of the film is that Billy, a young-20s loser who stands to inherit his father's wealthy company, must return to school for two weeks in every grade in order to prove to dear old Dad that he is worthy of that inheritance, lest it be handed to "evil" businessman Eric. Now, first and foremost, this is very much an "Adam Sandler film", much along the lines of Happy Gilmore. If you don't like his persona or type of humor, than stay away from this film altogether. However, if you find his shenanigans to be quite amusing, than I consider this to be the peak of his comedic-acting roles. The reason this film ends up being so charming is that it taps into that little kid in all of us, the one who looks back at those grade- and high-school days with equal parts nostalgia and horror. The movie does an excellent job of portraying both and oh so much more, including the standard "crush on teacher" (which takes on a new twist considering the student is 20 years old!), "bullying", and "social cliques/interaction" vignettes. There is nary a person in the entire USA who can't, at least on some level, relate to the type of jokes that Sandler and Co. provide in this film.About the only reason I don't consider "Billy Madison" to be a truly classic film is the insertion of the stoner themes and Sandler's sometimes crude, adolescent humor (although in this film it is toned down a bit from some others). Had the focus truly been on a family audience, instead of the 20-something age group that Sandler usually targets, it could have been one of the most unique films ever produced. Instead, at times, it gets bogged down in Sandler's idiot rants and overly-crude jokes. All in all, though, "Billy Madison" is a funny movie that will keep you laughing from beginning to end. Though not for the young kiddies (crudity/profanity) or very likely older parents (who just don't "get" Sandler's appeal), this is a great movie to watch with your buddies or same-age relatives. As Billy himself states: "Back to school, back to school..."

Billy Madison is a great hilarious movie. I've also seen Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Little Nicky, Anger Management, and Click. All of those are very good movies. Billy Madison is the best Adam Sandler movie I've seen. A goofball named Billy goes to school starting with first grade so he can manage his dad's company. The movie is extremely silly. It's packed full of great entertainment. One of my favorite scenes is where Billy says to a student in school something and the kid just stares at him in shock. So Billy turns to the student on the other side of him and says the same thing. This is a wonderful movie.

Adam Sandler acted way too stupid, annoying, and immature in this one. The nonsensical screaming and pulling faces. The horrible annoying "back to school" song he sang with that awful voice on his first morning of his school deal. And worse of all, the penguin! At a crucial part of the movie where explaining dialogue was badly needed between Adam and Veronica (the third grade teacher he was fixated with), the penguin suddenly shows up in Adam's mind again and he starts his nonsensical yelling again. Adam is an idiot man child who is twenty something and acts like he's a cross between a five year old and a perverted teenager. He never passed any of his grades before because of his rich dad bribing every teacher he ever had. One of the only funny lines: Adam's dad:"remember the second grade spelling bee? Spell rock?" Adm:"R O K?" Adam's dad:"R O C K!!!" Adam's dad's rival Bradly Whitford wants to take the business from him instead of Adam. The only way Adam will be able to take it, every grade passed in two weeks each. Then comes the endless barrage of stupid, stupid jokes of Adam going to school. Here are all of the awful parts of the movie: Everything with the penguin. Adam with the shampoo vs conditioner. Adam slurping his soup. Adam's "back to school" song, Adam thinking its OK to yell the F work in first grade class when discussing the "puppy that lost its way" children's book. The teacher rubbing glue on her face. The pee in the pants joke on the field trip. The clown falling. The scenes with the Josh Mostel principal (except for two moments, when's reading the note about himself "if I were him, I would walk into oncoming traffic", and the gay valentines note he passed to Adam). The hyena laughing of Whitford. The song, especially the part of the song with the clown. The montage with Adam in grades 4-8. The highschool scene with the chlorophyll teacher. Steve Buccemis character putting on lipstick. Veronica handling Adam's deppresion about being set up by punching him. The "ttttttttt today junior" line from Adam when a kid couldn't read and then Adam's stupid response when Veronica rightfully tells him off about it. Adam literally whining and storming out of the classroom like a whiny little kid during spelling on the blackboard. It was all horrible. Now for the few funny bits. The whole "O'doyal rules!" joke from different aged brothers of the O'doyal family in different grades being a jerk then yelling "O'doyal rules!" And the banana peel thrown by bus driver Chris Farley, the only other funny joke. And the banana peel leading up to the funny joke with the entire O'doyal family in the car. Chris Farely doing his trademark yelling and in a funny ironic way in one part, "no yelling on the bus!!" Everything else in the film was completely and totally stupid. Adam acted completely and totally stupid in this movie. Now, I am not saying I don't like Adam Sandler, I'm just saying I don't like him in this movie. When he has a good role like in "Drunk, punch, love", I liked him in that movie.
