Load of rubbish!!
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Enjoyable enough.A fairly pedestrian story which doesn't tax the brain in the slightest. I found I had no problem getting up and going off to get a drink or snack without hitting pause But as I started watching it occurred to me that it is a remake of sorts.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064519/?ref_=nv_sr_3
Could this possibly have been interesting if it wasn't such a mess? Well, for a start, the Science is a bit suss; a second Earth suddenly appears in the sky, I mean we've been searching the Universe for decade after decade with no sign (Ahh, perhaps hidden behind the sun!). It's the old plural planet-plural people thing). This is the stuff we all talked about in our late night youth or in Uni - before we started talking like adults. Then there's the young girl seeking redemption for past crimes (this offers the better part of the story) but when she suddenly has sex with the older bloke for no decent reason other than... "we're selling a movie, so it must have a sex scene". There's little thought given to the fact the scene is somewhat obviously out of place. As many other reviewers have also confirmed; (in between the 'promo' entries that is...) all the gaping holes in plot development play second fiddle to the shockingly bad photography – overloaded with dismal, shaky hand held shots and filled with amateurish jerky zooms, often leaving the trained-eyed-viewer feeling quite embarrassed to look. Not to mention the ultra cheap sets and video lighting. This mostly looks like it was shot on a cell phone or handy cam (complete with burnt out white levels etc) and directed by a first-year student who might have hired a camera he's never handled before. In a meager attempt to hide all this unprofessionalism, the promoters label it "arty" photography – more arse than class on show here! Brit Marling as the young girl is an OK performer but the pretentious script (partly her own) and direction leave her high and dry. At one stage she rambles on about a story involving 'Gagarin the first man in space', now there at least is a movie to check out for a class act. These days, one of the first hints that you may be in for a low- grade exercise is the Sundance awards claim (they must have a sub genre committee). If this is the future of 'award winning' movies then it's curtains for any real form of art to flourish. Not a good look for Fox Searchlight. Maybe OK for the college set, others beware.
This movie is about a woman who drinks and drives, so she clashes a car and kills and a kid and the mother. The man who also has the accident loses consciousness for a long time escapes death. She visits his house to apologize the accident, but she cannot do that, and she tells a lie that she is a cleaner and the purpose of visit is cleaning his house. I sympathize with her distress from her expression, voice, and eye. She falls in love with the man, so she would not like to lose this relationship. However, it is heartbreaking for her that she continues to tell the lie. I can understand her conflicts through her painful and sad expressions. I was very impressed with the scene that she tells the truth. I van understand his feelings that his lover kills his wife and child, and she betrays him from his complex expressions. I like this movie because I can enjoy the transition of the characters'' feelings and conflicts of the woman and the man. The ending is very attractive because I am keen to know the world after the ending.
Spoiler alert.Nothing happens. The new earth has no baring on the entirety of the movie. Any other hokey plot device could have been used instead of trumping up a grand sci-fi spinner. The movie is not a science-fiction, future earth, or any of the things that it pretends to be.
