I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

A band of werewolf hunters are moving along the countryside looking for work. One ravaged village hires them to rid them of a terrible super beast that has the ability to kill under any moon. A local man named Daniel (Wilson) convinces the hunters that he is valuable and joins them. A somewhat silly but entertaining werewolf film from Universal Studios no less has nothing to do with the remake of "The Wolfman" but sets itself up like a comic book movie. The hunters are the heroes the werewolves the villain's. There are way too many subplots that are introduced which lead to some predictable twists at the end which are disappointing. By the midpoint of the movie you will be able to guess which character is the super werewolf. To his credit, Director Louis Morneau knows what he has on his hands, which is a super gory monster movie and he makes it entertaining and gory. Body parts and pieces of corpses are literally spread all around this village and the movie has blood spurting everywhere. Gore fans will enjoy and all though some of the digital effects are cheesy and poor looking the action and gore flies throughout. The solid cast helps quite a bit. If you are in the mood for a gory fast paced werewolf film that doesn't take itself very seriously this could be for you.

After reading some of the reviews, I was convinced that I would enjoy this film. I wasn't wrong at all. The characters were fun and interesting and the story was quite good at keeping me guessing all the way until the final act when yet another surprise was sprung upon the viewers. The scenery is quite good and the music compliments the movie. The actors all pull their weight and their are some really good fight scenes. I will be adding this to my collection. If I had seen this in a theater, I would have been happy to see this in a theater. I think it was a lot better than the crap that has been regurgitated over and over again.

It is so difficult to list the names of ten half decent werewolf films. Its a genre which is grossly under explored. We, the fans of this genre are still waiting for that ONE defining werewolf movie, our STAR WARS ! Getting back to the movie, it is a pretty decent one compared to those multi million trash we seen being churned out regularly, and yes please don't mention the g*dawful Twilight dirt. There are historical blunders in this movie but if you are able to overlook them, you get a decent tale of a werewolf hunting down people in a village, who in turn hire a group of hunters to hunt it down. It has a few decent twists. In total, a so - so movie but much much better than the usual Hollywood "blockbuster" trash.

Judging by the title, I was expecting more Syfy channel toss.... How wrong I was.Though the pacing is a little slow in the first half, everything else really makes up for it. It's actually well acted with a good cast - including Stephen Rea; he's always fun (and for some reason seems to be in quite a few of these kind of films!). There isn't a huge amount of character development, but I don't suspect that's what people watch werewolf films for anyways, eh. The characters were interesting enough. The wolf itself has a very good design. Everything seems to be CGI nowadays so really I was expecting that (it was relatively well done too), but I was very pleasantly surprised by a fair few wolfie scenes using practical effects! ALWAYS better. Plenty of gore - without being over the top, lots of enjoyable action sequences (particularly during the second half), lets you have some 'whodunnit' guessing and with a nice twist near the end. All round, a really good were-movie! I'm sticking this one well in my Top 10 Werewolf Films list :)
