I love this movie so much
best movie i've ever seen.
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Zapped secured the services of three current teen stars to guarantee a box office for this comedic salute to Carrie. The three are Scott Baio from Happy Days, Willie Aames from Eight Is Enough, and Felice Schachter from The Facts Of Life. Would that things had only gone this well for Carrie on her prom night.Nerdy kid Scott Baio, a misunderstood science genius, gets some kind of chemicals mixed due to baseball coach Scatman Crothers spilling something and a noxious gas overtakes him in the laboratory in school. When he wakes up he finds himself with the power of telekinesis. After that it's one ridiculous situation after another. One thing about this film, except for the three leads nearly everyone else in the movie is a blithering idiot. Other kids, teachers, Baio's parents, Scatman Crothers is an exception. Best scene in the film is on prom night Baio's parents get a couple of priests to perform an exorcism on him.As for the prom, the scene is strictly a takeoff on Brian DePalma's Carrie with the damage played for laughs instead of violence. Typical brat pack comedy by three who were trying to break into the pack. Some funny scenes, but mostly kind of dopey.
This film is is pure 80s crud. However it does have one obvious thing going for it. Attractive 80s female day-players running around half dressed! Not to mention the cut price Heather Lockleah ( Heather Thomas or possibly her double) in a state of undress- yummy! This also applies to the dead sexy Jewel Shepard !!!!!!!!!!! That is why I have awarded this masterpiece 2 out of 10, instead of 1! Apart from that is totally and utterly unwatchable. Scott Baio was and still is a third rate Steve Guttenburg. However I do like the UK video sleeve of this awful movie! But this was a long time ago. I can see why any actor involved in this rubbish is too ashamed to admit starring in it!
This highly under-rated film of the early 80's is not only a masterpiece but a film of immense cultural significance. One that really should be studied in any film course that is on offer at tertiary institutions around the world. It not only shows good versus evil it has such grand themes as science versus nature and a meditation on the religious right that is often over looked by the more carefree viewer. These grand precepts joined with a killer soundtrack just reinforce this film as a piece of cinematic wizardry.Furthermore the cast and the special effects contribute to these points and it is imperative that when one views this motion picture these underlying themes and points are taken on board to ensure a true appreciation of possibly the greatest film ever produced.A must see!
A good-natured high school comedy, done in the typical vain of the 1980s, the film tosses around some fun ideas, but in the end it feels rather like it did not maximise its potential. Everything is predictable - the love interests that will be established, the tampering that will be done with the mind powers, and the end results. But it is all quite satisfactory to watch, even if the jokes are not too funny and the nudity not enough if one is looking to watch it for such a reason. The film is ordinary in many aspects, but it is never really poorly done, and a few amusing moments or two are enough for this to be an okay watch.
