Deceived
The murder of a museum curator places art dealer Jack Saunders under suspicion for selling forged treasures to museums. When Jack suddenly dies in a car crash, his wife Adrienne tries to discover what he did on her own. She finds that she knew little about the man she was married to. Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Am i the only one who thinks........Average?
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
I will say this, Goldie Hawn and John Heard did offer up good performances as the leads. The plot was OK, and the dialogue was pretty good, not anything great, just pretty good. The last about 25-30 minutes was very entertaining and fun, the best part of the whole movie. The middle of the movie did kinda drag on a little, that's why it's not getting a higher review. I do suggest the film as a basic thriller, if you're in need of one at some point, although I do think you could find a better one than this. 6/10 for deceived (1991). Not one of Goldie's best, but definitely not terrible. Oh and one more thing, I did enjoy the actress that played Goldie and John's daughter Mary in the film, I thought she did a great job playing her role.
PAH, the only one being 'deceived' around here is the watcher, being told this is a 'chilling thriller'. Well, the only thing that spent shivers down my spine in this brainless slop was the latest in a long line of cutesy-poo American child actresses guaranteed to grate on your nerves from the moment she opens her sweet little mouth. MOMMY! DADDY! MY VOICE COULD MAKE BUDDHISTS GO ON A KILLING SPREE!! I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think King Herod had the right idea...The story here would insult the intelligence of a slug, the 'twist' would only catch out those who fell asleep for the first half-hour (thoroughly recommended btw) and the entire product is just one big embarrassment. And guess what?! The final 'epic confrontation' takes place in... Wait for it... AN ABANDONED BUILDING!! I'm starting to think they only build those places so psychotic killers can fall to their deaths from there, with an evil leer on their faces...Well, at least Goldie's getting older now, so she won't be able to make too many more terrible movies... OH NO WHAT'S THIS... SHE HAS A DAUGHTER CALLED KATE HUDSON WHO'S CARRYING ON THE FAMILY TRADITION?! NNNOOOO *Screams to fade out* (Now THAT'S a good twist...) 3/10
This movie is a mystery with plenty of twists, but the real star is Goldie Hawn's performance. I find it hard to believe that she has not done more of this type of movie. The major problem I had with this movie was the big fat plot holes, namely how you get a car to flip with a dead guy driving or how a guy that works in town gets away with a second family, or if he was Daniel, then who was fencing the rare Egyptian jewelry, or why didn't she fall down the hole too? Too many leaps of faith are expected of the audience and exactly why I did not rate this movie higher. I did, however, enjoy the "New York" ambiance, the sets and the wardrobe (which was not too embarrassing from the early 90's). Goldie could try another hairstyle though, really, it was a little distracting remembering that it has not changed since her Sock It To Me days. All in all, it was fun to watch and it does jump your heart a few times, just as a good thriller should. Definitely worth watching for Goldie's performance alone.
A handsomely-made thriller saddled with a silly script, cluttered up with incredible situations and plot-holes. Goldie Hawn, toning down her upbeat persona, is curiously thoughtful and tense playing a woman whose husband has just died in a mysterious car accident; little by little she discovers he wasn't who he seemed to be. Nothing exciting or substantial is done with this premise, the child actors in the movie are just awful, and the long finale (a foot chase) doesn't do anybody any favors. The film's classy look dwarfs the marginal plotting (it leads one to expect much more), and the tag at the end--a freeze on Hawn looking wistful--is humorously self-defeating. There's nothing so thoughtful about "Deceived". ** out of ****
