One of my all time favorites.
Absolutely the worst movie.
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Good cinematography. inspired music. lovely location. Zac Efron decent work. and emotions. a film with precise target. not only/exactly a teen one but a public knowing the lost of beloved other, the significance of the second chance, the return to yourself, the map of a love story changing everything. sure, far to be a great film. because it is easy to critic it. but, maybe only in my case, the impression was far to be bad. maybe, an usefull film. sure, for a precise part of public.
This week I watched Charlie St. Cloud (2010), which is a drama/fantasy/romance film. The logline reads "Charlie's brother, Sam, dies in a car crash that Charlie survives. Charlie is given the gift of seeing his dead brother and others who he has lost such as his friend who died in the military, but when the girl he falls in love with's life is at risk, he must choose between his girlfriend and his brother." Watching this movie was very intriguing and I felt like the movie was underrated. I really like how the film dealt with concept of dealing with death and moving on from death. Obviously this is a professional work as it is a Universal Pictures production, so the lighting, VFX, editing, etc were all at the professional bar. However, I will say that I really liked the cinematographer's use of light in the night scenes. The moonlight against the human form was especially artistic and interesting as the rest of the cinematography was less artistic and more meant to emulate natural lighting. There were a few moments in the script that felt a little forced and could have used more research to buff up the content, but overall I really appreciated the uniqueness of the story line and for once I really could buy the male rescues the female scene. It was heartwarming. I wish this movie got a little more credit as it really does deserve it.
I really didn't expect much from this movie, it was sad, it was joyful, it was unique. I loved it, needless for long reviews, It had me feel confused, beautifully confused. The acting was cool, the plot line, well who would hate it ? I myself think it's underrated, and it is one of those movies in which Zac Efron once again proves himself as THE lead actor.7.5/10
There was no happy moment or good moment in the movie, just depressing. Okay not all story lines should always be happy, but the whole thing was sad. Charlie was looking after his brother when his mother I think was working late. Charlie gave his brother a ride somewhere or something which the movie was kind of unclear on. The brother both get into a car accident and I think both die, but I think they were able to bring Charlie back and not his brother. So he is able to see his brother and visit him every night at the grave, the whole scenes are just dark and depressing. He finally gets a girlfriend, hard to believe, a grown man who is intelligent and has a reasonable job in his 20s never had a girlfriend. He gave up his whole life just to visit his brother every night, he worked at the cemetery instead of going to college, I guess because that is the only way he could visit at night. Then he has to choose between his girlfriend or his brother, and can never see him anymore, sad, depressing. There is no point to the storyline, it doesn't teach anything or put a happy ending to anything.
