Very well executed
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Kill Me Three Times is a blackly comic crime thriller set in Australia. In the small coastal community Alice Taylor (Alice Braga) is suspicious of her abusive husband Jack Taylor (Callan Mulvey.) Jack has good reason for his suspicions as she is having an affair with mechanic Dylan Smith (Luke Hemsworth) and she also plans to steal from her husband and run away with Dylan.Jack hires hit-man Charlie Wolfe (Simon Pegg) to follow her and then take her out. Nathan Webb (Sullivan Stapleton) is a dentist, his wife Lucy (Teresa Palmer) is his receptionist and she is also Jack' sister. They have schemed to kill Alice, switch dental records with Lucy and collect from her life insurance as Nathan has gambling debts and is being shaken down by a corrupt cop.Charlie observes Alice being killed and surviving, it has the Tarantino type jumbled up narrative as well as heavy dose of violence but lacks the dark humour of the Coen brothers. As you watch the film more subplots are revealed as there is more backstabbing than a Roman senate meeting.Brazilian actress Braga shines, Pegg plays against type as a nasty hit-man who seems to bounce back more times than the Terminator. The film is derivative but improves as it goes along helped by its Australian setting.
Mildly Amusing and Violent Aussie Film with Simon Pegg as a Hit-Man done in the Tarantino Style that is without much Style of its Own. A rather Sharply Photographed Story, the Sleight of Hand Kind, but basically just Sleight.Characters Stand Around a lot and recite Repetitive, Unfunny Dialog trying for Ironic, Cutting Edge, or something. But it is rather Boring and there is virtually No Investment in any of the Characters. All are attractive Cardboard Cutouts at Best.Fans of this Type of Thing may give it a Pass as one more Movie of its Type that is a pretty Popular Style among Better Directors like Tarantino, Rodriguez, Ritchie, but even They have to work hard Not to Repeat Themselves. So Mimicking is a Risky Business. This One Lacks an Edge and Wit. It Delivers a Sun-Baked, Surfs-Up Look Backdropping a supposedly Dark Story that is Bland along With some Pretty Bad Acting.
Once is never enough" – a tagline used to promote Kill Me Three Times and a tagline that couldn't be more far from the truth as one single watch of this dire Australian black comedy is most certainly enough. On the back of one of the most successful Australian films of all time, Red Dog, you'd think that long time director Kriv Strenders would've known a thing or two about making a competent and well-made feature length film but judging by Kill Me Three Times, the director certainly has a fair bit more to learn about what it takes to deliver when it comes to filmmaking treats.Kill Me Three Times is sad to say as a proud Australian, yet another telling example of why quite often local productions fail to resonate with either local or international audiences and while the locations of this West Australian set comedy/thriller certainly look nice and I'm sure the crew enjoyed their two weeks away in the sun and sand, Kill Me Three Times lacks any type of personality, heart or most tellingly for a comedy caper like this, wit. Too often Australian productions come off as amateurish and rushed and Stenders film is both of those things plus more with an abysmal scripting, unlikeable characters, plodding editing and one of the single most annoying scores ever committed to screen by Johnny Klimek (without exaggeration the score is almost too much to handle) and not even a name cast can save the film.Cast against type as a hit-man who likes to laugh (a lot) Simon Pegg is the single watchable acting presence in the entire production in which the likes of 300's Sullivan Stapleton, Warm Bodies' Teresa Palmer and local industry veteran Bryan Brown all meander about getting to chew on atrocious dialogue and get involved in increasingly unlikely circumstances. Perhaps they all signed on thinking this was going to be some type of Aussie flavoured Pulp Fiction but more likely they all saw the benefits of a nice paid holiday. With an insubstantial plot, a lack of any rhythm or rhyme and with a wasted cast, this nasty box office and critical flop is most defiantly not worth your time. A shame as there was potential here but in the end being killed once is more than enough as we're safe then, never having to watch this tripe again.1 why didn't I just watch Red Dog? out of 5
Loved, loved, loved this movie! With all the garbage being churned out by American production companies, pushing name actors to the forefront and delivering nothing but third rate entertainment, Kill Me Three Times was a delightful charmer. So many reviewers have compared this to a Tarantino rip-off. Maybe these reviewers need to expand their horizons and start accepting some movies as pure entertainment, which is what this is. With a definite lean towards comedy, this film is such a p*ss taker it constantly tweaks the funny bone, even in the most violent of moments. Strange to relate, while everyone else was referring to Tarantino, who seems to be the obligatory name plucked out of the hat, nobody referred to the Coen Brothers -- whose Blood Simple drifted into this viewer's consciousness at one or two gory moments. Time for the majority to pull their boots out from the mud and remove their Tarantino horse-blinders. Of course the Coen Brothers pre-date Tarantino so I suppose their movies must be considered passe by the new breed. But getting back to the movie in hand -- is is a great movie? No. Is it an entertaining charmer? YES! Is it ten times better than most of the garbage being churned out by Hollywood today? Hell, yes. Would I recommend it to friends? Yes. Will I watch it again? Absolutely. I'm flattered that my taste is different to everyone else's and I'll trust my own judgment rather than following that of the majority of posters who have a predilection for whatever junk Hollywood churns out, no matter how rotten it is. I loved this movie.
