Excellent adaptation.
Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
As soon as I saw Anna Faris I was clear what kind of movie this is, but Uma Thurman in leading role gave me false hope that maybe I just have prejudice. Well, some prejudices are here for a reason. We all know Anna from Scary Movie franchise. Fans of it will probably enjoy this movie, the rest of you should skip it. Movie is slightly retarded and being a comedy is not good excuse. For good comedy you need story either completely retarded or not retarded at all. Slightly retarded simply is not funny. This movie is somewhat entertaining nonsense with just few inspiring scenes and that's it.5/10 (if there's no shark scene I would rate it even lower)
Look, up on the screen! Is it a bird, is it a plane, no, sorry folks, it's a dog and a very lame dog at that. In fact it's a very lame super-dog, that's Krypto isn't it? You see I'm a comic superhero fan and attracted by the title thought that this might be another entertaining spoof along the lines of "Mystery Men", but was I ever wrong. The humour is forced, the acting over-indulgent, especially Uma Thurman as the super-jealous heroine Jenny / G Girl, the special effects are just okay, the story is uninvolving and the characters a pretty unlikeable lot too. Besides the flaky Thurman there's also Owen Wilson's crude, sexist flat-mate, while Eddie Izzard picks up an easy pay-day for doing not very much. The film is aimed of course at teenagers which is probably why so much of the if-it's-not- vulgar-it's-childish humour missed me by a generation or two. In fact the only super- heroism here was by me, sitting through it till the end.
Considering the concept and a cast that includes Luke Wilson, Uma Thurman, Anna Faris, Wanda Sykes and Rainn Wilson I was expecting something funny. 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' has its moments in the first half but the writing is inconsistent and lacking in imagination. The characterization is also at fault. While the first half has some funny moments, largely thanks to the cast, the second half shifts from dreadful to abysmal. The movie neither works as a superhero action flick nor a romantic comedy. While the chemistry between Luke Wilson, Uma Thurman and Anna Faris is good, the whole Eddie Izzard track felt forced and out of place. Sykes is wasted and Rainn Wilson is cast as the clichéd horny geeky friend who rambles on about sex. Speaking of clichés, much of the humour is formulaic and over-the-top. I also found the change of haircolor from brown to blonde or blonde to red, the enlargement of breasts etc as they change from women to superheroine to be at least a bit superficial. Anyway, 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' could have easily been better but it isn't much good now.
Jenny Johnson (Thurman) is sitting on train when Saunders (Wilson) tries to ask her out, in the middle of this a thug nick Johnson bag. Saunders gives chase and gets back the bag. Johnson is so thankful she agrees to go out with him. After dating for a bit Johnson tells Saunders her alter ego G-Girl. After tell him Johnson turns into a crazy jealous bitch so Saunders dumps her, she then makes his life a living hell.I decided i would skyplus this film for when i was bored and has nothing else to do. Looking at the cast i thought a film with Luke Wilson in would have lots of laugh out loud moments, how wrong could i have been. This film seems to just drag on, and made me just as bored if i was watching paint dry.As with most Rom Coms you know which character Matt Saunders would end up with after the 1st 10 minutes of the film. Also it you know that either the pretty girl will either have a fat friend or the man will have a not so good-looking pervert and the latter was true in this. The friend is normally the comic relief but i found the character annoying and not amusing. The only couple of funny moment (minor spoilers) are when G-girl flies so fast round the meeting room at all Saunders clothes come off so he stark naked in an important business meting and when Saunders and his super girlfriend are shagging so hard they make the bed go through the wall, much to his neighbour surprise. The two leads just seemed to be there for the money and really looked liked they couldn't be bothered how the film turned out and it showed, while Anna Faris seemed to play the normal Anna Faris character, the likable but dump-witted blond. The best character in the film was Carla Dunkirk played by Wanda Sykes. She only had two scenes in the film, but she played her feminist, up in the mans face well.I would recommend, that nobody buys or rents this film and only watch this film if you really really have nothing in your life better to do. 3/10Read more of my reviews here: http://cinemadvdreviews.blogspot.com/
